Quick format?

Yes -> quite easy, almost nothing is lost
No -> don't know, haven't tested myself yet. At least I am quite sure that non-quick format in Windows is less destructive than non-quick format in AmigaOS. In AmigaOS everything would be lost.

What filesystem was on it? FFS? PFS? SFS?

In any case, start by creating a full image of the drive, and create a backup of this image to get a work copy. Never work directly with the original drive until you are completely done with the recovery job. You can start by opening the backup image in a hex editor and search for file names that you know should be there.

You should try the program from this post first: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=917424#post917424

RDBrecov might be overkill. If you want to try it please use the latest version from my homepage: http://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-online...s/rdbrecov.lha

Sounds good so far. How can I get WinUAE to see the drive? Getting an ACCESS DENIED flag.

Why don't you upload the current version to Aminet? 99 % of potential users would be looking there instead of your homepage.

Right-click WinUAE and select Run as Administrator.

Had to put this on hold and I'm back. I can get WinUAE to boot from some shared directories I have with a System on it. How would I create an image of the drive?

Click on "create hard disk image file" in WinUAE.

You should not ignore the information which is already in this thread from two years ago.

Here is the output I got:

5.Ram Disk:> RDBrecov uaehf.device 5 s 512 c 40714 cs 1764
Trying to open uaehf.device unit 5
SectorSize = 512 (overridden by parameter: 512)
CylSectors = 32 (overridden by parameter: 1764)
Cylinders = 2244359 (overridden by parameter: 40714)
Allocated partition table for 100 entries.
offset of last block is 0x8,8FC1D000
using NSD style commands
Reading cylinder 40714
Complete.

But when I go to install, I'm seeing an "Error 7 in drive description"?

Here is what I got. It looks like it cannot find any partitions?

RDBrecov uaehf.device 5 s 512 c 40714 cs 1764
Trying to open uaehf.device unit 5
SectorSize = 512 (overridden by parameter: 512)
CylSectors = 32 (overridden by parameter: 1764)
Cylinders = 2244359 (overridden by parameter: 40714)
Allocated partition table for 100 entries.
offset of last block is 0x8,8FC1D000
using NSD style commands
Reading cylinder 40714
Complete.

Yes, but it's still the wrong program. In case you didn't recognise, you copied the same output as above.

If your browser does not position you correctly inside the linked thread, here is a direct link to the post with the program you should run first: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=917424&postcount=9

If you still want to run RDBrecov, you should try without s, c and cs parameters, just device and unit.
The first partition should start within the first 1000 cylinders. So if it didn't find any partition within this range, you can break it with Ctrl-C. It does not make much sense to examine the whole harddrive if it cannot even find the first partition.
You might want to let it run with cs 1 until it finds the first partition. Then press Ctrl-C, divide the cylinder number found by 2 and use the result as new cs. For example if it finds a first partition at cylinder 2016, run it again with cs 1008. Then it should find the same partition at cylinder 2, but it should finish with the rest of the hdd much faster than with cs 1.
