Battery woes
Hi,
I just checked through my Amigas for leaking batteries and found two which luckily had not corroded the PCBs but had leaked: - The usual 3/V60R Varta (which IIRC was NiCad, not NiMH?) on a A501 half meg ram expansion board. (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showha...cgi?HARDID=968) - a thinner blue sausage stating 2/GP60K A1 on a small RocTec half meg ram expansion board (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showha...gi?HARDID=1064) Before I go and look where to find replacements, I'd just like to verify that both are NiCad 2,4V cells with 60mAh capacity? I'm not eager to buy NiMH cells which can't handle the charge voltage. In addition I have a Power PC Board 500 with a RS2032 battery, which won't leak but I wonder if it should be replaced, how well such can hold charge after 20 yrs? picture here: http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showha...cgi?HARDID=333 Any suggestions for good battery online stores in EU? :-) |

A501: 3,6V 60mAh NiCD. (three cell barrel)
RocTec: looks like 2,4V. No idea about the capacity. (two cell barrel) Feel free to replace them with NiMH cells, it will not make any difference, except they're not as prone to leakage. It's a bit difficult to find fresh barrel packages these days, I've just gone to biltema and bought a cheap cordless phone battery and soldered it's wires where the barrel used to be. Mind the polarity. |

Well, I've now got 9 of 'em left... - I think you're sorted though. |
