Optimising my A600 for Octamed?

G'day guys, this is my first post, so be gentle please. If I have started the thread in the wrong area point me in the right direction

I'd like to get back into the scene, but it's been a LONG time, and there's plenty of new upgrade options. I've read a number of threads, but conflicting reports and ideas seem to plague them all, across multiple forums. I'd love to hear from people with practical experience.

I have an A600, a Cf hdd, and an A601 +1mb Ram Expansion card.

I use MIDI to control a piece of external gear. I use a PCMCIA Cf card reader to transfer files, but it is not used often, and I dont mind freeing up the slot if it conflicts with an upgrade.

Which one of the following would you recommend to increase the performance (sample editing times, load times etc) of my system?;

A Pretec 4mb Sram PCMCIA card
A 'Furia' Accelerator
An A6095 expansion card

My purchase options are limited to eBay, and I cant afford a 'Vampire' kit.

Have any of you had experience with any of those upgrades? I've read conflicting reports that Octamed does not benefit from Sram.

hope to hear your recommendations and comments soon

Sorry, i should have mentioned I use Octamed 4.0

I don't mind moving to 5.04, and can get a copy from a friend, if it is optimised to work better with any of the 3 options in my first post.

The Furia would probably be your best choice. Just adding Fast RAM doesn't do that much.

CPU is for sure the most important thing but without some fast ram a lot of your chip will be eaten by the os and everything would be slower. I also suggest you move to v5 as from that release OctaMED became a serious Amiga application.

You could consider a Vampire v1? I imagine there should be some for sale as users will be wanting a V2 as the later Apollo cores don't fit as it has a smaller FPGA.

Going to second the recommendation for a furia. The 020 is clocked high, has a maprom tool and it can be easily configured for more/less RAM to allow you to use your pcmcia card to transfer files.

Another vote for one of the various 020 Accelerator boards (Furia, ACA620).

Most compatible, stable, low power consumption and no hassle to setup.

Go Furia. If you plan to modify samples (sox, afsp etc), you may consider a 68882 FPU for it.
