Megalomania speech problems - out of elements
Hey all.
Thought I'd see if anyone else has had this problem. Megalomania runs fine using WInUAE, all the speech works till you run out of an element, then it tries to load the "We're running out of elements!" sound byte and stops working. The game continues to run but the emulated drive keeps spinning and you get no more speech. This would be ok but that means you can't ge the "We've won!" and the level just locks up. I've tried about four different images ,and just about every setting you can change in WinAUE Iv'e changed. Same story over and over. I can play with speech off but tbh the speech is half the fun. So... anyone know if there's fix for this, or have any advice? Or even is it wotth finding a WB 3.1 somewhere and install Megalomania to a hard file maybe? Thanks. |

You didn't post any machine specs, you're emulating, but methinks this could be due to lack of memory.
Try a plain A500 with 1MB. ...or install the WHDLoad version and enjoy |

I wish there was a little hack that put the original message in: "No way, shithead!". It's a classic! Shame the sequel never appeared!

I've tried just about every permutation of settings I can think of, even the ones that are excessively CPU intensive.
I'll elaborate a bit on what happens. I'm running it Windowed so I can see the DF activiity and also have the disk drive sound emu on so I can hear disk access. It all runs fine, every piece of speech works spot on, till you mine a resource out then you normally would get the voice saying "We're running out of elements (or elephants I was never sure)!", then at this point the drive starts to seek to load it in and just continues to spin making the evul hissing noise that it does. My machine spec is ; AMD 3000xp 2gig PC2700 240gig HDD space (collective) Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb Windows XP Sp2 I'll give the HDD version a whack if I can find a version of WB somewhere - sems a bit silly chasing around for something I never used when I bought my Amiga ;p Like rocking horse sh** now Last edited by Philz; 21 August 2005 at 22:59. |

So i take it Philz you never owned an A1200 with a hd and workbench and the many other delights that came with hd games?
i am sure all of the guys round here would back me up on this but playing a stock A500 with floppy disk games (ie megalomania) and then moving UP to an A1200 HD, extra ram and HD games is like discovering the Extra gears on a Porsche (other than first) stick around m8 many of the guys round here will help with problems you have setting up a system but trust me it's worth it |

Yeh. Well actually I had a 16+4, then a 64, then a 500, and finally a 1200. But never had a HD, and so never saw any need for WB. Though having played EoB 1 and 2 and Elvira to the end I sometimes wish I'd had one (RSI from swapping disks)
Also got a CD32 and a CDTV (paperweights) at some point but the 1200 has to have been my favourite. Best bit was linking up with null-modem cable and playing Overdrive against my bro on his 500. Best thing about that was my lights on racing games went green before the 500's did Oh and ofc Stunt Car Racer and Armougeddon \o/ |

I'm presuming the 4 images are different cracks or whatever?
Have you tried the IPF versions |

@Philz
"I'll elaborate a bit on what happens. I'm running it Windowed so I can see the DF activiity and also have the disk drive sound emu on so I can hear disk access." Yo can have the drive lights and sound available in full screen mode. I have this setup and works quite well. Just set the options in the "misc" tab menu. |
