The Amiga works because of RGB audio and PCM sound samples. Synth stuff severely limits what the sound reproduction could be, and it would only be a SID fan's wet dream, anyway. That SID chip is overrated, to be honest.

You misunderstand. I mean a synth chip in *ADDITION* to Paula's PCM audio. You could include a Yamaha-style FM chip (like the Genesis and X68k), or some sort of "Super SID" PSG with 16 channels or something. This would give you the flexibility of having lots of channels of audio along with the ability to generate arbitrary waveforms.

A very simple and cheap PSG alongside Paula's PCM would already do wonders to be quite honest.
