jmmijo, that is a monster, not computer. BTW, one I posted is laptop, thus only 45w and lower cpu speed so battery last over 30 minutes. Wait a second, I have faster buss speed...

As I already mentioned earlier, I don't use installer for most of programs I listed here - I use portable apps to install them on thumbdrive and to update them.

PortableApps - install and organize free portable apps

Two "freebies" I use frequently.

Wget - A command-line utility for retrieving files using HTTP, HTTPS and FTP protocols.
youtube-dl - youtube-dl is a command-line program to download videos from YouTube.com and a few lot more sites

Putty - SSH and telnet client. If you install Putty suite, you also get couple other useful programs.

If you don't want to bother installing Linux VM, but still like to be able to run some linux command and/or use wget and similar tools...
Cygwin

I covered here how to use it to download stuff from archive.org.

My media player of choice, MPC-HC.

Also use this quite a lot to fix fubared subtitles and removing SDH stuff.
Subtitle Edit.
Great for OCR too, I converted and fixed quite a lot of ugly old VobSubs to subrip recently.

Altap Salamander, a powerful Czech made two-pane replacement for Windows explorer is now freeware. I've used it for years, very small memory footprint, check it out here.

it's fast, it's convenient, File Renamer Turbo is my favorite tool for mass renaming files (mp3s, roms...) on my computer. Strangely enough, it went freeware a few weeks ago, about the same time Altap Salamander followed that path. Just give it a try folks, it will blow your socks off !

Macrium Reflect is so far best tool for backup / restore that I saw. From being able to copy any/all partitions to perform hot backup and restore it on different disk without much of issues. We used it to move all computers from regular to SSD disks.

Can you access the backup's individual files directly from Windows?

Yes, you can mount individual backups as disks on Windows.

Oh yeah, just checked.
It's not instant like in EaseUS Todo Backup where all you have to do is literally just double-click the archive icon and it opens like a new folder, it's more like in AOMEI Backuper where you choose the partition, but it works.
Thanks, gonna test it on my NAS.

EDIT: thanks Anubis, yours is the most feature-rich out of all the free/home backupers I tried, especially when it comes to compression, backup plans (schedules & types) and a lovely "purge old backups if less than on the target volume left".

Glad it works for you.

After using it for multiple years, I got license since I use it quite often.

Just renewing support for Marcium today - 15 dollars for full year that entitles you for all new versions. Rare software that is priced correctly.

Quite a few PC users are reluctant to use native file transfer capabilities of Windows. Instead, they use renowned third party programs such as TeraCopy or RoboCopy (command line version was included in later versions of Windows AFAIK), so they can fully enjoy various copypasta tasks with ease of mind . Well, since I like to do things my way, I gave a try to challenger program Copy Handler recently, and I must say it's lightweight and convenient, so far so good. On the plus side, it bears queuing, resuming of unfinished operations support, detailed statistics so on so forth. It can be downloaded free of charge of course, so do yourself a favor and grab the installer or portable version.
