This is not a productive discussion, short circuit it and behave like adults.

Ah, I think you misunderstood my intention here. What I meant was that travel by boat takes much longer, so it's much easier to notice if people start getting ill all of a sudden. Which makes it easier to block sick people entering a country unopposed. Air travel is so fast that people who are already ill can fly to to the other side of the world before they get visibly ill and thus end up infecting people in the new country.

I actually heard one professor call Corona the "airplane virus" on the news to try and explain this problem. Which I found an interesting take.

Read how the plague came back to Marseille/France by boat despite a good quarantine reglementation in 1720
Keep the (translated) french wikipedia as it describe better how the ship came... with nine deaths aboard
"it is impossible to know the people who actually intervened, but the entanglement of the interests of the families of merchants and of the authorities who ruled the city are enough to understand the reasons for these numerous negligence"

Well, I'd not call a quarantine where some people are exempt a good quarantine

Anyway, I think I now genuinely have pointed out all I really have to add to this subject.

What a ridiculous opinion, like many of your other great ideas. Yes, it originated from China, but calling it a Chinese virus and even thinking that it's the fault of a particular nationality is right up there with the Trumpian propaganda of calling it the Chinese virus. I thought even you would be above falling for that. It's a naturally-occurring virus that has mutated to infect humans. It doesn't give a shit about borders, nationality, politics or perceived race. It infects humans, it's *our* virus to deal with now.

And should you not be reimbursing China for their environmental destruction and the deaths of thousands of low-wage workers, purely because of the never-ending obsession of your society with cheaper and more powerful electronics? I'm sure you wouldn't mind a 100% tax on all your technology to pay the Chinese back for the hardship they've suffered due to this "Western Disease".

As for eating disgusting animals, yeah the markets are pretty disgusting, but why single out certain species for being disgusting? Surely eating all animals is disgusting then? Or is eating certain animals perfectly acceptable because of your culture? If so, then what's the difference here? After all, there have been disease outbreaks before from perfectly acceptable (in western society) animal consumption - CJD for example. The only saving grace there was that it wasn't easily spread between humans. If it had, the world would be a very different place now.

Eating the animals isn't necessarily the root cause either. The mutation occurred in animals, so it was only a matter of time before it made the jump to humans. Maybe it would be 6 months later, maybe a year later. But if the virus was prolific in the bat population, it will happen sooner or later, maybe through a scratch from a bat, contamination of fruit or other food that wasn't thoroughly washed before consumption, or any number of ways. It is, after all, highly transmissible.

TL,DR: Grow up.

Clear responsibility of the Chinese for not warning anyone and 99,9% probably giving fake statistics all this time (for not to be isolated) and clear responsibility of the Western governments not having a f*ckin clue what the hell is going on.

Our president laid off whole pandemic department that works for USA government 2 years ago, and person that was supposed to give us warning from China for epidemics/pandemics was fired about year ago.

No need to blame China when we have government like this...

>if the virus was prolific in the bat population, it will happen sooner or later
This is not true: if the virus was somewhere in a bats cave in a jungle far away from any towns it would certainly never have happened
So selling small living animals especially bats predators from the jungle like civets that may contain viruses was stupid...
I mean each animal species got his own biotope so if the "coronavirus bat" was not living near humans (cliff,jungle,mountain,etc...) they would never have encountered

Even in Europe bats may have rage (that is much much more deadfull than coronavirus) so if europeans were selling living small predators from the wild like martens it will happen too

This is not fair to give responsability to China about what happened with this chinese virus.
China didnt know that a new virus may appear, so they lost some times to recognize this new disease, but they deal well with it so the epidemy stopped
France (or USA or whatever western country) KNEW that this virus infected China but deal so badly with it : from 12 cases at 15 february we are now at 44000 cases in France

China, Korea and Japan reacted well
But other rich countries were so lamentables...

Virus and Death will judge all those countries, their governments and healthcare systems

You are comparing this virus with other viruses you know about, and that is where mistake is.

Here is snipped from President and CEO of local hospital here, very important part:

Quote:
Please know that COVID-19 is far more dangerous than the flu. It is more contagious — contagious for longer and much more deadly. After two months, one person with the flu will pass it on to about 386 people. Comparatively, one person with COVID-19 will pass it on to up to 99,000 people. The fatality rate for those contracting the flu is about 0.1%. For COVID-19, this rate is 10 times higher.
As for western response, it lacks authority of dictatorships (china)... or people who things good for their fellow citizens. (south korea)

While we are at western countries, doesn't France (and few other European countries) pass the law prohibiting covering your face in public??

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French..._face_covering

How stupid and silly that looks now?!

I think the fatality rate is much higher than 1%. Which is huge anyway. I think it's 5-6%. USA is doing massive tests, they had about 50.000 1 week ago and 3.400 deaths today (probably counted 1 week ago). No mention another 3.900 critical. Of course no one is saying the truth because Trump and UK prime minister should give an explanation why the f*ck they let this happen.

Trump was warned in January and February how bad this will get - and he dismissed it. We will be paying price for that. Last few days he brags how good ratings he has from his daily corona virus briefings, while people are dying due to his idiotic response to pandemic. There is an tv ad that has snippets from Trumps comments from mid - februarry to week ago when he graded his response 10 out of 10. But we are sailing in world of politics... and let's leave it there...

Testing will show positive cases, but because of speed of infection, number of infected is much larger than one that testing shows. USA still lacks in numbers of tests as well time it takes to return results.

For sure Trump will go to court to explain some things later on. Unless he is lucky and some medicine that stops the slaughter will emerge.

I'll trump your "Trump this", "Trump that" and close the thread since you guys are clearly drifting towards a political discussion.
