New to WinUAE help please.
Hi all, just joined tonight.
I had an Amiga 1200 back in the day but been running a PC for years now. I recently got interested in playing some of the old games I was very fond of, so I searched and found WinUAE. Downloaded it. I then searched for old amiga games and downloaded a few. I tried to set up WinUAE and got as far as a blank Amiga window. The games I downloaded all have the extension .lha and are zipped. WinUAE does not recognise these files or the unzipped files. I'm stuck. I looked at a couple of Youtube vids to see how to set things up but found them very confusing. I use DosBox for the old PC games, I hoped WinUAE would be similar, just drop an .exe on it to load the game....wrong. Anyone got time and patience to help me please? ![]() |

welcome.
I think you dont have the kickstart rom files. there is one buildin into winuae, but this is not 100% compatible. to test what you have, do this: start winuae, on left side settings, select "Paths" and push "Rescan ROMs" this will report which roms you have. about the games: extract the zip files, if they contain .adf files then you got the correct diskimages. working amiga games from the TOSEC collection you can find on the EAB ftp: /Commodore_Amiga/TOSEC/Games/[ADF] (TOSEC-v2012-12-24_CM)/ ps: easiest way to start with winuae is using "Quickstart" option: choose computer type (A500) insert a game-disc and select "Game Ports" to configure joystick-option for port 2 ( works in most games this way). PS: about the kickstart rom, there is still a copyright and it is not allowed to share them here. you can buy a whole amiga emulation package from cloanto incl. ROM files - or find them on the net, with some luck. Last edited by emufan; 19 June 2015 at 06:20. |

ADF is most common used image format for amiga disks. WinUAE will use them all, but some formats (like sps) require additional dll to work.
There are several web pages with games on internet... Not sure what is now EAB rule, in case it's not allowed, mods can edit my post and you can PM me. http://www.planetemu.net/roms/commodore-amiga-games-adf http://www.gametronik.com/site/emulation/amiga/ Have fun.... |

I think I've sussed it guys, thanks for all your help. Now downloading ADF files and using Quickstart, got a copy of the roms from a friend. It works fine now, just need to tweak some settings to get the graphics and sound better.

Once you all set with emulation, you can check how to setup workbench and/or download pre-made setup (IMHO best one is ClassicWB) and then you will be able to use WHDLoad - witch makes amiga games floppy-disk-less ![]() Most of us have WHDload registered, to provide support for folks still moving amiga games to WHDLoad. Enjoy your games... Last edited by Anubis; 19 June 2015 at 19:58. |
