Amiga 1000 & Rejuvenator find

I picked up a non-working Amiga 1000 yesterday super cheap -- planned to use it for parts. When I opened it up, I was surprised to find a Rejuvenator board in there:

The Rejuvenator has the fatter Agnus chip and Kickstart 2.04 in ROM. Huzzah!

I was even more surprised to find a CMI PAMC-1000 accelerator board plugged into the 68k socket:

Unfortunately, the Amiga does not boot. The power led comes on solid, but the screen is black.

I've checked all 3 clips from the Rejuvenator to the MB, all pins appear to be aligned, all chips are socketed, no apparent damage anywhere. The only defect appears to be the leaky battery on the Rejuvenator which I need to remove -- it doesn't look like it has caused much damage thank goodness.

To troubleshoot further, I'm thinking of pulling the CMI PAMC-1000 board and putting in a stock 68k next. If that doesn't work, maybe remove the Rejuvenator and move it to another working Amiga 1000 to see if it's the MB or Rejuvenator.

Swapped the PAMC-1000 accelerator board for a stock 68000 and ... success! She boots to a Workbench 2 request screen! All I have is a WB 1.3 disk and when I boot that sucker, I have 1MB of chip RAM.

Next step is to remove that damn leaky battery from the Rejuvenator...

Great job. I have one too still in a box which was given to me ( need to try it if still works). The battery has been taken out but I still see some remnants of the leak that it did on the board.
Thanks for sharing the pics...

Hello

Would a rejuvenator fit in an A1000 without the piggyback board?
Would you consider selling the rejuventator?

Regards
Tommy

Not selling this rejuvenator, sorry.

To my knowledge, it will not fit a PAL Amiga (the model without the daughterboard). It needs the pins that the daughterboard uses, plus the exact alignment of the OCS chipset as it plugs into the sockets (and you plug the OCS chips into the rejuvenator).

You would probably need a Pheonix board instead. I also hear that the ACA500+ works on the external bus of the A1000 and gives you a faster CPU, more fast RAM, and a couple of flash slots that you can use to load Kickstart from. I have one on order and hope to try it with my non-rejuvenated A1000.

This is quite a persistent myth. PAL A1000s exist with and without the daughter board.

Yepp, I have a PAL board with piggyback laying around.

My working A1000 is PAL without piggyback.

What I would like to have is my A1000 with a Vampire and Rejuvenator.
Will probably have to search a while, and also would need to swap motherboard with my piggyback version.

Will keep dreaming on.....

Would be really nice to have some retro-fit 2mb chip ram solution for the A1000. Even 1mb chip ram would be good enough, combined with an A570 CDrom on the side would mean I could run Defender of the Crown II for CDTV. A landmark game that truly shows what is possible with OCS chipset functionality + extra 512k chip ram. Apart from the 1mb chip ram there is nothing the CDTV does that the Amiga 1000 can never do without modification to the spec.

Realistically speaking, I would just be happy with a spare Amiga 1000 CPU box that worked lol

The 2mb Chip A1000 is called 'Phoenix'.

A non working Amiga 1000 is such a beautiful piece of hardware that can be fixed, unlike most mobo's today that are simply trashed. I would love for another batch of either rejuvenators and/or phoenix boards to be released on the market. A an old friend of mine bought one in the early 90s and it was a true prize. Being in Canada and having an NTSC Amiga, it just would be great to upgrade the OCS to an ECS agnus. I ordered the ACA500 Plus for one of my Amiga 1000s, and was going to grab a new Wicher500i, but these do not seem to work properly with A1000s...cheers.
