Favourite Developers Of All-Time

This isn't really solely a retro-game question but it seemed the best place to put it!

What developers out there have consistently delivered and brought you the best games? I want to get a general opinion of which publishers have published the games which you played the most/loved the most.

This is an OF ALL-TIME list so chose developers that are long gone, developers which have just been set up, just generally your favourite developers from history. I'll be keeping a tally so I can draw up a big table of awesomeness.

I was just really interested in this on IRC so I thought I'd find out what you lot think. Please stick to top 5 and try not to stray too far off topic if you can!

I'm still thinking about mine at the moment...

AND YOUR TOP FIVES ARE....

My favorite publisher is the owner of a little Amiga games shop in Cieszyn on Gleboka street called: Edward Nielacny (Translation: Edward "not-cheap")

LOL... me knows... i just wanted to say, that this guy had the only games shop - in the past - near my place (12km exactly), and all he had, was C64 games, wedding dresses , Amiga craps or errorous disks . I remember bying from him the "Chaos Engine", and seein' in home that the game doesen't work ... ... after gettin' it back to him, he maked me change it for another game ... i chose the cheapest, just to finally get home...

But enough about Mr. "Not-Cheap", let's get real now... if there's only one vote, it goes to:
Psygnosis

... if there are two votes, the second one goes to:
Team 17

...if there are three votes, the third one goes to:
Play Byte (Blue Byte)

...if there are four votes, the fourth one goes to:
Square

...and finally, the fifth goes to:
Konami

PS: Sorry didn't read your post carefully... now it's top 5!
PPS: I only know Amiga publishers 'couse i only had/have/will always have the Amiga and... h...hey!!! Playstation!

Hard to say if you're talking about the publisher or developer.

LucasArts didn't publish their own games back in the days, they left that to US Gold. Virgin published the Sensible Software games (Sensible Soccer, Cannon Fodder). There's a lot of publishers there that should be credited that's just forgotten and doesn't get credited. Maybe not even in this "publishing" thread...

so, is it publisher or developer?

I thought this might come up but I chose to completely ignore it... I suppose in reality we should be talking Games Company It's a lot easier!

EDIT: I've changed it to developers because it fits better and because I'm sure someone would put AMIGA if I changed it to games companies

Then I have to say Sid Meier (I say Sid Meier, because it's mostly his games I found interesting, most of the other games from Microprose didn't interest me much).
Team 17, simply because they were THE trademark of the amiga.
Sensible Software, don't need to say much about that one, do I?
LucasArts was one of my favourites back in the days, but now they're just an empty box in a corner to me.
Sierra were also on the top on the Amiga, and everything went downwards from then. And how could they actually fire Al Lowe? Roberta Williams? Talkabout suicidal tendencies.
Squaresoft made one of the greatest games ever for me, Final Fantasy VII
Oh, and Konami makes Metal Gear Solid, another favourite of mine.

Too many greats...

AMIGA: Cinemaware, Factor 5, the Andrew Braybrook team, whatever their name was, (Renegade, no wait, GraftGold I think) Dino Dini and the Bitmap Brothers.

OTHER PLATFORMS: Don't know, don't really care.

Here goes my list, in no particuar order:

Compile - Mainly for its MSX games, but also some of their 16 bits stuff were great. Made: Aleste series, Zanac series, Puyo-Puyo and a few other games

Konami - Again, mainly for their MSX stuff, but I think every system they touched, they made dozens of brilliant games. They aren't exactly the most "user-friendly" company ever, and they have made lots of things that makes them easily to be hated, but we have to agree, they've made LOTS of brilliant games.

Treasure - Cult japanese developer. Their finest hour was with the Mega-Drive, their line-up for the system is impressive: Gunstar Heroes, McDonald's Treasure Land (The only not so good title), Alien Soldier, Dynamitte Headdy, Lightining Cusader, Yuyu-Hakusho. Also made Radiant Silvergun and Guardian Heroes on Saturn, and Ikaruga on Dreamcast and Gamecube. Has made lots of other great games in many systems.

Sensible Software - Needs no introduction here EVERYTHING they made on Amiga is golden. They surely are missed nowadays.

Team 17 -Again, no need for introduction. What's funny about Team 17 for me is that they don't have many "favourites" in my list (Most of their games have a better example in the same genre), but it's the only company that has released more than 20 games and ALWAYS kept the high quality on their releases.

Lol at DizzyApe

mine are:

ssi
Psygnosis
Cinemaware
LucasArts

i don't want to come out with more names, just because there are many others that were as much as good: it's not like i'm sayin that this thread is stupid or its started needs to be thrown at fishes locked in a asylum' shirt, just i think that there are a lot of publisher that came out at least with a game that you love and that would pull you to write their name here. so to speak the only method to judge the value of a publisher house, even considering personal tastes, would be judge their politics, how they sold/sell themselves... so i prefer trow the ape and see if he float instead
