connectivity/file share A1500 options
All,
I have a A1200 and an A1500.. the 1200 is sorted in terms of connectivity, I have network card and PCMCIA CF card reader, So I can get files from internet or my PC etc onto the machine OK. What are my options on a A1500? I just want an easy way to get files/games to the A1500, more easily than writing to floppy on the A1200 and copying across. It seems I could go serial cable...using amiga explorer. But that slow? ideal might be a CF reader.. so I can move stuff in bulk (I don't expect it to a regular/often requirement). Things I have - amiga explorer (comes with amiga forever) - A1200 (so could serial from this? what software best?) - PC (no serial port or floppy) - A1500 has an A2091.. so have a SCSI connector - SCSI HDD in the A1500. - NAS... with ftp (amongst other protocols). - USB CF card reader/writer - WinUAE - normal routers/switches, Ethernet and wireless around the house. - AROS PC which does have a Serial port (I think).. and does have internet access. So what are my best options? considering it will be and infrequent need after an initial bulk load. Don't want to spend a huge amount. Thanks in advance for your advice Last edited by Yoji; 17 June 2015 at 19:57. |

If you feel adventurous, you can buy a cheap usb to rs232 (I like the PL2302 chip) and a nullmodem cable on ebay.

Parnet the A1200 and A2000? It's not as slow as serial, at least. :-)

Parnet... ahh good old CIA burner...
if there is slim chance that Amigas are not GND at same point you burn your paraller CIA one or both Amigas for sure !!! multimeter can tell is there GND differences and it's AC/DC but be sure use switcher... or just take ALL cables off you Amiga when you connect Parnet cables |

Could a bunch of 1k resistors fix some of the burning?
A volt meter is probably a must as well. |

Thanks all..
I think the Parnet solution seems the good short term one.. but keep my eye open for some sort of SCSI/IDE/CF solution.. Still open to other ideas.. but that's best we have so far Cheers |

I'm just finishing off making a plipbox :-
http://lallafa.de/blog/amiga-projects/plipbox/ I found the avr-net-io in kit form for 20e from pollin on ebay, but the 30e built module would be easier to work with, and if you have access to a 3d printer, there is a avr-net-io case on there to download and print off. So pseudo real ethernet has cost me 20e + some time tinkering. Getting ami tcp configured has taken me longer than building the hardware. |

Another idea, put a gotek in it and copy stuff into blank adf images using uae then transfer it to your usb key.
Also scsi2sd, its not that expensive ($70) and it sure is quieter than spinning rust... The download site where you can find the avr case is thingiverse, sorry forgot to mention the site. I have ressurected my a2000 with scsi2sd, gotek drive and plipbox for networking. |

Adf explorer is also a nice way to copy files to/from adfs. Not sure how it works past win7 though.

Thanks again all - an eclectic mix of options
Still like the parent option until I can find a better one at a sensible price. Cheers |
