A1200 with ide cd rom. Can’t get it to work. Help ? :(
Hi guys. So I am trying to add an iDE cd drive to my 1200 setup. Have the drive connected to a Rastport KA 60 dual port ide adapter.
Drive is powered fine and if I open a CD player tht came installed with BestWB on my 3.1.4 setup I can eject open/close the drive from the Amiga but I can’t get a CD to show up. I’ve installed IDEfix97 but scan in there doesn’t show an atapi drive. Am I doing something simple wrong? Is there anything manual I need to do? Paul |

Cheers fellas.
Yeah I have the CD set to slave, it won't boot if I don't. And yes I have a physical 3.1.4 rom I burned myself which works fine. Like I say, the Amiga sees the drive because I can eject etc. I just can't get it to appear on my WB when I insert a CD. |

He has, os3.1.4 has all the needed parts, cd.filesystem and scsi.deice wich supports CD drives.
That would be best option, not to use any old filesystems, like cdfs, asimcdfs, etc. OR atapi.device. In your Workbench partition there is a DEVS folfer an under it it is a dosdrivers folder. There should be CD0 file wich is actually mount list for your CD-drive. This should do, though I don't rememeber what was the name of os4.1.4 filefilesystem? Was it just cdfilesystem? You can found it from you workbench partion root of L draver. CD0 file should look like this if you open it text editor--z> /* $VER: CD0 2.40 (14.12.97) * * CD-ROM filesystem mount entry */ Device = scsi.device Unit = 1 FileSystem = L:CDFS Flags = 0 BlocksPerTrack = 32 BlockSize = 2048 Reserved = 0 LowCyl = 0 HighCyl = 11000 Surfaces = 1 Buffers = 64 BufMemType = 1 Mask = 0x7fffffff GlobVec = -1 Priority = 10 DosType = 0x43444653 StackSize = 600 Mount = 1 Control = "LC BL=8 FB=32" /* Control field template: * * LC=LOWERCASE/S,CS=CASESENSE/S, * HF=HFSFIRST/S,LN=LONGNAMES/S,TD=TRACKDISK/S, * BL=BUFFERLINES/K/N,FB=FILEBUFFERS/K/N, * DC=DISKCHANGE/K/N,MT=MOTORTIME/K/N, * SD=STARTDELAY/K/N,TDC=TDCHANGE/S, * TOSHIBA/S,OLDMODE/S */ Last edited by utri007; 27 May 2019 at 15:10. |

Thanks for this mate. I'll have a look. I actually got it to get CD1 to appear on my workbench with an 'Uninitialized' so I couldn't browse it, but progress.
Think I might go back to a backup and try the above, as I've lost track of what's installed and what isn't now. |

Thanks mate you are a legend. So I guess I don’t need to install IDEFix 97?

It sort of works. Of the four CDs I've tried/burnt one shows up as an audio disc and I can browse the files on it - I thought there should be data on it but need to try some more.
Two don't show at all and one (which I think I burnt a CD32 game) seemingly tries to boot and crashes the machine. I'm a little suspcious of the actually drive/cable though. In FindDevice it finds a CD but all the drive info is corrupt/garbage characters. It says Unit 1 but after that it's nonsense. Going to try swapping the cable then potentially the drive. I think the Amiga side is solid enough though. |

This morning I received the rom 3.1.4 and the operating system, after changing it for my old 3.1.0, I installed the operating system, scsi.device in Devs, CDO in DOSDrivers, CDFileSystem in L.
RESET and my CD0 drive not appear anywhere. I try with 4xEIDE99 which was what I had in 3.1.0 and it worked very well, and now it gets stuck in the boot (I guess that's when it tries to load 4xEIDE.driver. The unit is CD0 scsi.device Unit 2. I'll keep trying and I'll tell you |

Impossible, try it all the ways and nothing.
With 3.1.0 it did not have any problem, but with 3.1.4 it is impossible ..... |

Ack doing my head in now. The drive I was trying was working ish - it would read one CD but not others. It was a £5 quid from eBay job though so I decided to replace it today with a £20 brand new IDE drive from Amazon. A1200 won't even boot with it attached. Only gets so far then just hangs before WB.
Also changed cables but my orig drive just gives a garbled drive name if you run FindDevice. Only thing I haven't changed is the IDE buffer thing which is still the rastport one, but I don't want to shell out £40 at AmigaKit if it's not going to work. |

As expected, just boots to the Kickstart screen rather than trying to load the OS from the SD card.

The only way i got mine to run was give it its own At power supply, and start the power to it about 2.5 seconds after booting the A1200 from the brick..
I was told it was a problem with my rom chip 3.0, but it worked .. good luck. |

It has it's own power supply but I'll try the late power trick now although 2.5 seconds is very precise ;-)
