I have been working on the board some more.
I replaced U177, U975 and U976 and checked the resistor pack, this should all be ok now.
I also checked the clock circuit following Anthony's RTC repair guide and all seems fine.
Sadly still the A4000 will not boot.
So some more fault finding is needed.
All help and advice is appreciated...
