Things to be cautious: if it is not IDE, it's one of those old custom interface drives. Don't mix them up. Google with the old drive's model number first.

He bought the Archos Overdrive from me.

You can´t change the drive with an IDE one.
You have to take the Mitsumi FX001 which is not IDE compatible...

I had one of those archos overdrive things back in the day. The first thing I wanted to do was change the drive for something more modern. The problem - its not a true ide drive! Way back in the mists of time old pc's had the option of an isa soundcard with what looked like an ide port. One of these cd drom drives would be attached to it - afaik anyway as my memory is a little fuzzy but I did have one on an old 486dx.

My archos had an habit of vanishing from the amiga, the pcmcia adaptor would go awol after a few hours. But when working it did the job.
