EAB/Lemon Super League 2008: Round 6 - Turrican

EAB/Lemon Super League 2008: Round 6 - Turrican

Rules:
- The round starts now (Sunday, June 8) and will end at 11:59pm UK time on Saturday, June 28.
- Score as many points as possible.
- Post screenshots of your score in this thread, and write your score underneath. You can enter as many times as you like within the round's time frame.
- No cheating of any kind (including score leeching) - this includes save states. If you suspect a contestant of cheating then don't post it in public (anyone who does so will have their posts edited or deleted) - please PM either me or mihcael and we will investigate it. If we find anyone guilty of cheating then they will be banned for the entire season.
- Please only post your score on either the EAB or Lemon forums. If you have already played this year you have to post your score on the same forum for the whole season. If you are new, the one you post on first will be your "team" for the whole season. However you are welcome to discuss the compo, game etc. on the other forum if you wish.
- No continues allowed.

I had two lifes left but I shot down the ground that's apparently the only way, and there was no place to die. So I waited until the time ran out (for about 5 mins!) and thought that maybe the ground will reappear, but nopes.

There is NO way to get stuck in Turrican. there is "always" a way to continue on, you just need to try harder to find a way out. Keep trying!

First try. Anyone have a link to a manual? (Or tell me what keys do what, other than the first two on the joystick, space and alt...)

What do you know how to do so far? That way we can figure out what we need to tell you

For some reason I don't like the rocket-backpack level...

393.700

Here are some 'tips' for people that play Turrican not so often :

1. At the very start turn left and walk as far as possible. Jump up and gain one extra live
2. Use the spread shot. The laser has more fire power, but it's easier to shoot flying enemies with the spread shot.
3. Use the beam whenever possble and turn into the 'wheel' when there are spikes on the ground.
4. Always have the spacebar ready for power lines. They help a lot in certain situations.

Better yet: use a dualshock-controller.

My setup:

Triangle - single fire (=> beam & mine)
Circle - power line / wheel [SPACE]
Cross - jump [UP]
Square - auto fire
R1 - grenade [ALT]

This was just at the beginning (to the left) in world 2. As it was such a small area to explore I doubt that I missed something...

Okay, that's better. But I need the old Competition Pro feeling to play that game But you're right. Having the extras mapped to the gamepad is a lot more comfortable

Turrican is one of my favourite game.
That's not my best score, usually i manage to finish it with more lives left (>30-40).

Woah! Congrats Rick! That's a really nice score
I think TodaysForgotten now got a pretty good challenge
I will try to complete it myself, if only there wasn't the damn rocket backpack level...

They are certainly the hardest part of Turrican. You get plenty of lives in the level between the two, but it wasn't enough for me...

Oh man!, this is going to be one hell of difficult competition! I know i chose Turrican and i do love the game, but i had forgotten just how BIG part 1 was! I honestly think the maps in part 1 are far bigger than in part 2 !!. I don't know how many times i can sit there and finish it !!

I made a number of errors, and i know i could have done quite a bit better, but......

Anyway, i completed it, and here is my score guys.

You silly man .. Yes if you shoot those small floors away to the far left at the start of World 2, you won't be able to go up into that spot, but you don't need to go that way, because all that is really up there is just a bunch of bonuses ( which will help your score though ) .

What you need to do is go back the way you came to the far right of the play area and beneath you, you will find bits of the same kind of floor. Just hold down your fire button ( with autofire off if you have it ) and rotate the beam you have to destroy the floor below you, so that you can progress!!..

Cheers Druid !!.. but no, you are definately worthy!! ... its actually possible to get roughly 18 lives from the first 2 levels on the first world Having that little backlog of lives should see you through the Jetpack levels ( there are 2 of them don't forget! .. lol )

I am sure someone is going to topple my score very soon though!
