Mercs, your favourite version?

1. MegaDrive (great atmosphere, new levels and music, good playability) http://www.mobygames.com/game/genesis/mercs/screenshots
2. Amiga (better use of colors than in MD version, slightly better music) http://www.mobygames.com/game/amiga/mercs/screenshots
3. arcade (I don't know why but when I want to play Mercs I often choose Amiga version instead of arcade version)
4. Master System (no music, too big bullets, no atmosphere) http://www.mobygames.com/game/sega-m...cs/screenshots
5. Amstrad CPC (not bad conversion for 8-bit computer) http://cpcgamereviews.com/m/index4.html

I know nothing about ST http://www.mobygames.com/game/atari-...cs/screenshots C64 http://www.mobygames.com/game/c64/mercs/screenshots and ZX Spectrum versions.

I prefer the arcade or PSX version (Capcom Generations Vol. 4).

The MD version is indeed very nice, with some useful options. But sadly no multi-player.

"Better use of colors" is a rather subjective observation, I see that a lot in graphic discussion between megadrive and amiga versions of games. Making a game more colourful doesn't mean the overal graphics of a game are better but hey, that's just a subjective opinion as well I guess. I think the megadrive versions looks better then the amiga's, trying to cram in as much as possible graphics isn't always a positive thing in my opinion.

Arcade no doubt, for well all reasons except it doesnt run on amiga..

Some relevant points:
  • Three players.
  • Rotated screen, not cropped vertical
  • Better use of colour.. you know like actual gradients and a nice faded paralax far away in the horizon
  • 60hz not 15ish fps
  • Better sound, as in not the same but sampled at lower rate
  • All the animations in place, all the enmies in place, all the pre rendered path "AI".. you cant just hide in a corner.

"Rolling Thunder"

I wasted 2 minutes of my life in yesterday when I try to play for the first time this game on my Amy. Thank god the disk has also BUBBLE BOBBLE with unlimited lives so the game disk is a great after all!

Okay, then we need a 'Amiga vs. NES' thread (and the NES would win in this case )

Rolling Thunder 2 and 3 is actually one of the favorite games on the Mega Drive. Too bad it is not available for Amiga.

I thought I`m the only one who likes the AMIGA version of MERCS.
The arcade original is not my cup of tea. A bit to fast, and less atmosphere.
I really love the amiga version. Especially the soundtrack.

Admittedly, Mercs on Amiga isn't horrendous, but the awful stench of Tiertex means its nowhere near as good as it could have been.
