Atari ST versus Amiga in pictures

[ Show youtube player ]

It's an interesting picture comparison. In some cases you can't see it clearly that the ST has less colors, other games (e.g. Giana Sisters) shows the superiority of the Amiga.

@Paul_s:

Another Hülsbeck song that sounds like Tangerine Dream, for free!!

Why semi-derail this thread with such faggotry as that?

Poor ST, I think reduced colour palette isn't so bad (as is shown in Retro-Nerd's link), not compared to choppy scrolling and bleeping, blurping sound.

More important is how graphician uses colours, not so much how many colours he has to work with (obviously).

I like artistry that creates illusions of more colours, more detail etc.

Pretty cool. I had no idea the ST's graphics were that bad. I mean I knew, clearly, the Amiga's HAM mode was tits (and extra half-brite cool, too) but I guess I just assumed the ST had something better than that 16 colors with some hacks.

And, of course, the best hack was SHAM.. Hi-res, 4k colors.. Man! That showed some great pics. I mean... Pictures of parrots. And hot air balloons. Or something.

Cool video! Someone should make a PC/DOS vs Amiga comparison video of old games, that would be great

The titlescreen of Robocop 2 looks much better on Atari ST, the Amiga pic looks like it's directly from the digitizer without any finetuning on it while the ST pic has been artisticly enhanced... but of course it has less colours wich i guess the point was with the comparison.

Dunno about the Amy's version, cause I've never played it, but is this game so... slow? Looks like the character controls are seriously lacking smooth responsivness, especially well seen at 1:10 when he escapes the fish or the stupid ways the player dies.

This awful ST music forces me to turn off the volume every time. Looks like only Thalion was able to do some nearly smooth scrolling ST games (try Wings of Death, Warp or Ghostbattle) with a decent sound (Hippel).

Pretty much the only old ehrm.. "sound system" I don't like is the PC speaker.. but even that I like in a few games (old Sierra games for instance but only because of nostalgia ).
