Adding a second harddrive to A1200 with IDE card
My new amiga has a IDE card that allows 2 channels etc. Has IDEFix installed and all is good. 1 Channel has a 3gb hd, second channel (both primary) has a CDRom
I have added a second HD (slave) to the 2nd channel with the CDROm on it. How do I see/add to OS the new harddrive (its 3gb) I can see it in the findDevice I believe and press use but nothing happens. Please help |

Run HDToolbox and create some partitions on the drive. Only partitions can be seen in AmigaDOS, not harddrives.

Very true, but...
Sometimes (well in my hands, all the time) it is best to keep both HDD's as primary and Slave only the CD ROMS. Also use the LoadIDE and it's follow up command, the ActivateAllIde or similar C: command. Or I read the setup wrong in the post and I'm off-base

Hdtoolbar does not show anything, not even the working drives and I don't see a command like loadallide or activatall
I can see the device in idefix findDevice program |

Check tooltypes of HDToolbox. Make sure it reads SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=scsi.device.
Or run it from shell like this: hdtoolbox scsi.device (If FindDevice uses something other than scsi.device, you have to use that with HDToolbox, too.) |

IDEFix
The full install of IDEFix adds several "C" commands to your "C" directory: LoadIDE & ActivateCrossIDEFix. I don't know about the cripple-ware version on AmiNet, but the full registered version from the Amiga Forever CD has them and one is given options to use the former (LoadIDE) which persists, and the latter (ActivateCrossIDEFix) that is added at the end of boot (which may just help mfm devices). I've found that the default IDEFix97 install works wonders at supporting not only the ATAPI command set, but also in helping to find second channel devices. But I'm tired of being trashed for my suggestions, so I'm out-of-here. Good luck.

Thanks for the info, I made sure ideFix is on autoDetect. I also updates hdtoolbox and so that's displaying 3 devices but 2 seem to be the CDROM drive? Could it be a duff drive?
