New Gotek won't boot on A500

I've got a fairly vanilla A500 with only a 512K trapdoor expansion (plus the switch) and the previous owner modded the floppy controller to support booting off the external drive.

I got a brand new gray Gotek unit from AmigaKit plus new data cable and power cable, and the Gotek doesn't seem to want to boot my USB.
  • It's already flashed with the latest Cortex
  • It's getting power
  • I've tried two different USB drives with nothing more than the SELECTOR.ADF
  • I've reinstalled the original floppy drive to make sure the cables are oriented correctly and could boot off a floppy
  • The jumper is on S0
  • I've tried it with the 512k expansion enabled and disabled
  • The little LED on each USB stick lights up and flickers
  • The Gotek displays "000" and I'm able to push the buttons to select a number but nothing seems to happen
  • The amiga stays on the white handy-disk screen prompting me to insert a disk
  • I've tried other users' Gotek packs with the same results
Does it take a long time to load the selector image?

I'm having a hard time finding any instructions on this thing so it makes me think it's supposed to just work?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

000 takes about 5-7 seconds to load. You need load 000 first to allocate any adf off the usb stick onto a digital slot number ie 001 and save and restart.

Have you tried using a different or smaller size 4-8gb usb stick? I dont think the gotek likes certain usb branded usb sticks.

One other thing you can try is get it on 000 slot. And turn off the Amiga from Power Supply instead of soft reboot anf see if it works that way.

Well well. The moment I ask for help and plug it back in, it works. Of course! Thanks for the tips, no idea what the problem was... Mis-seated cable likely.
