Apollo 630 help
i have bought a faulty apollo 630 accelerator and i'm trying to revive it.
When you turn the amiga on it just hangs on a black screen, whoever owned it desoldered the cpu and installed a socket on the board...which i found a couple of dry joints on and rectified but it still just hangs on a black screen. The cpu is warm to touch after a minute or so but it is the original desoldered cpu as far as i can tell and i've heard these do not work well in sockets. Unfortunately i do not have a spare 030 cpu to try in the board. I've cleaned and reseated the smaller mach chips...anyone have any suggestions? |

@Doog
Whip the 030 out of your A2630 to test the A630 TC |

thats soldered in mate and i realy dont want to tempt fate with that one lol.
Also the apollo is designed for 40 or 50mhz cpu's...not sure if an 25mhz one will affect chip timings etc. |

Have you tried disabling the 68030 on the 630 and seeing if the machine boots with it in place? Not sure that'll prove anything, but at least it might show the contacts are working?

Just one thing: what's your mobo revision ? I had a 1.3 which didn't work with the Apollo. I had to go for another rev (here 1.1 but all other work expect 1.3).
It's just to be sure |

@DoogUK - you could try sending it to JJB at AmigaCenter France to see if he can fix it?

Sorry for the late reply... On the 620, there's a jumper to disable the 020 and just use the 68000...

Ah bugger, apologies for the false hope. On the 620 there's a simple jumper... Looks like the 630 just has "RAM" and "WAIT" jumpers, but no fallback jumper.
