Is this true??? Did he do something of note with a REAL Amiga???

no, i think os3.9 patches the ROM to 3.9.... it is only in software though.

Could be wrong though

I thought it might be something like that, but that would mean the ROM is flashable/writable at some level or am I totally missing something now?

the new rom is just memory resident... Would someone with more nouse than me back me up lol

SETPATCH updates certain things in the ROM (no, it doesn't put them back into the ROM, it puts them in memory) and this results in the 3.9 insert disk screen. You just need to run SETPATCH (OS3.9 version) and have no bootable drives to get this. I see it from time to time with my A4000/Kickflash OS4 combo (ie. when prepping a new drive, etc.).
