Duplicate characters per keyboard press

Firstly, I apologise if this is a FAQ somewhere, or the topic already exists on this board. I've done a (quick?) search but I've been unable find anything appropriate.

I have just recently upgraded WinUAE to 0.8.22r9 from (I think it was) 0.8.17 something. (Finally Barbarian runs).

However I have the following problem occur. Whenever I type text on the keyboard I get duplicate keystrokes appear on the screen. For example if I type "list" in the shell (cli), the following appears "lliisstt". Of course the shell won't process that command. If someone has come across this problem and knows how to fix it, I will be truely grateful.

I run Kickstart 1.3, WB1.3. My system has an USB keyboard (if that matters).

Thank you.

I currently have sound enabled. If you mean to try it without sound then I'll have a go tonight.

Choose "Fastest possible but maintain chipset timing" from the CPU page. The "chipset timing" part is what you need.

No, I did mean WITH sound!
That was the "fix" for Linux UAE years ago (to turn that on).
Linux version had exactly same problem.

I normally have "Match A500 speed", but I tried with "Fastest possible but maintain chipset timing" and no luck. I still get the double output.

OK, I tried this too, but again no luck. As soon as I press the key I get the double but any key repeat is single. I'm just delaying the repeat.

I've attached my default config. for reference.

I'll also try and find a non USB keyboard and see if that helps. My version of DirectX is 9.0 as well.

Well that definitely helps. I plugged in a spare keyboard I have with a PS2 connection and now keyboard input behaves correctly. This is not what I want to have to do though.

Does any one else have a USB keyboard? And have the same problem?

WinUae is the only application I have that has this problem.

My USB keyboard is a Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro. The only drivers I have installed are the Win98SE ones. I recently reinstalled 98SE about 3 months ago.

Repeating characters

Try changing your active priority from above normal to normal and see if that helps. For some reason, WinUAE at priorities above normal seems to lock out DirectInput from time to time (in my case, when vsync is used with heavy scrolling).

Unfortunately this didn't work.

I'll give 8.23 a go.

Orfax, do you see multiple keyboards under "input"-tab select box?

Firstly, sorry about the long delay in my reply. Busy time of year.

Yes. That is the problem.

I have the following inputs:
Gravis Gamepad
Mouse
USB Human Interface Device (this is the mouse I think)
Keyboard
Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro

The keyboard and mouse are repeated. Both are USB devices (mouse plugged in to the keyboard)

When I change to Confugration 1 and disable one of the keyboards, it then behaves normally (ie one keypress, one character)

However when I save the configuration, it just saves the active configuration number, but nothing about the keyboard. So when I start up, the configuration is 1 but both keyboards are active. This is not a big problem, other than I have disable one keyboard whenever I want to type something. However if this can be fixed...

Cool

Hey, I do remember a buffer overflow fix with a couple of some odd keyboards installed that had over 255 keys mapped, it was some builds ago... (Sidewinder??)

This problem is solved. Problem seems to only affect Windows 9x/ME. DirectInput lists USB mouse/keyboard under Windows 9x/ME twice, as a system default mouse/keyboard and regular mouse/keyboard.

I'm running Win ME. I am pretty new to all this though so it is possible that the problems is with me and not my operating system
