Name that SMD component! (Help with a CV64/3D scandoubler)

Ladies and Gents, I could do with help from someone a little more experienced than me in SMD stuff!

The CV3D scandoubler that I've bought works temprementally - it needed bending in order to show a picture, which suggested to me a broken connector or dry joint.

Having checked, there's a largeish (for an SMD!) black lump with silver ends that has no continuity across it unless you bend the board, which sorta suggests it's knackered. I'm guessing that there's an internal crack in it.

i've removed it from the board, and it came off in 2 pieces despite being exceptionally careful, so I think it was cracked.

Question: is this a simple bridge, or is it more likely to be a ferrite bead of some sort or another? I'm guessing it's a ferrite to remove noise above certain frequencies...

Next question: is there any way to tell what sort of ferrite it might be??? There's two others on the board which suggests to me it might be in the RGB path.

It's the device on the bottom of the board, just above and to the right of the end of the edge connector...

Clues? Thanks!

It does seem like a ferrite bead more than likely included to comply with EMI & RF regulations..

Simply short the pads mate... Job done.

Tell you the truth, that's what I have done already and the only thing stopping me from powering it up is the lack of a new PCB mount 15 way VGA connector

. Ordering bits from Farnell as I type

I then had a slight crisis of conscience - what if it turned out to be something else and critical...

Thanks for the confirmation/thoughts. I'll whack the new connector on when it gets here and let you know!

Could be a ferrite core or a capacitor.
EDIT: Based on your description, probably a ferrite core.

Greetings,
The object just above the one you refer too *looks* identical, test it using a multimeter, it should read almost dead short, if so, then it's most likely to be a ferrite bead as previously stated.

If someone else has one and can do a test for you to determine if it is or isn't, that would be better again.

Well, I nipped into Farnells on the way home and picked up the VGA connectors...

I'd shorted across the ferrite bead/fuse/whatever the mystery thing is, and with small trepidation powered it up.

SUCCESS! Perfect!
