A603 Indivision Mod to keep the floppy drive in A600

Hi All,

I'd like to share some pics of my little simple mod that relocates the ECS Indivision in the A600 so you don't have to remove the floppy drive.

First pic shows the layout of the parts. Indivision on the left, adapter in the middle, and A603 on the right.

Pic2 shows the adapter mounted on the A603...

pic 3 shows the indivision mounted on the A603

and finally...

The case closes fine and there is clearance so there is no bending of the board. Those of you with a keen eye may have noticed that i swapped the orientation of the 9 pin video cable as it leaves the card so that it doesnt go upwards. THere is plenty of room now between the ACA630, Floppy and Indivision.

On the far right is my upcoming PS2/PSX adapter. I have the first beta working, (shown with wireless PSX controller hooked up). There are a couple of errors, (similar to Zetr0's ground plane error. The final boards will look similar but have a few more features. (for my beta testers, i will send the final beta out to you in about 2 weeks).

I have 8 of the ECS adapter boards that i can sell, (2 are reserved). I don't think there is too much interest in making more especially as Jens is going to make an updated A604 board that will allow people to keep the floppy drives in the A600. Let me know if you are interested

here is the link to the eagle CAD files for those people that want to make their own. It would be very tough to make this design by hand as the holes for the pins are non standard.

Consider this design public domain if you want to make or sell this as i won't be making any more.

I forgot to mention the price i am selling these for... $9 each plus shipping. if people want to do bulk shipping to save money again thats fine.

Uninsured mail would be about $6 international and insured $8.50.

Also, forgot to mention, the plastic socket adapter on the underside of the Indivision is removed. It can simply be carefully pryed off. I'll post another picture in a bit showing this.

This adapter won't work in its present design as it looks to actually have a socket also on the underside making the height too high. i'll show the underside of mine later

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the interest, everyone above his post is good for an adapter if they still want , I have 1 left, and 2 on hold for someone that may become available if they have changed their mind. I won't be able to mail these out until at least Tuesday is its a long weekend here in Canada and canada Post may also be going on strike so hold onto your money for time being until i get a chance to finish off building these.

@fitzsteve, if you want to do a bulk order again to save money on postage let me know who and how many

@Amir,

I am sending you a pm

Heres pics of the installation.

first, the untouched ECS indivision...

s

Remove the socket very carefully, bit by bit, don't use anything sharp or metal...

Picture showing how it assembles... (closest socket sits on top of the pins on the Indivision).

carefully squeeze the parts together evenly...

Place the indivision on the A603...

picture showing clearance between indivision and A603

Picture of the A603 installed. Notice i snapped off the 2 plastic guide pins of the expansion slot to make the card easy to slide in and out.

Also, a close up of the serial 10 pin connector that feeds thw 15 pin VGA socket. The clips on the side can be gently pryed apart to allow you remove the cable and reroute it so it lays better

thats it

I have a new idea for the A600 and a1200 that will coincide with my ps2/psx adapter, especially for those people that don't like doing the harder mods. (It should be a pretty simple mod)

I need close up pictures of the various A600/A1200 motherboards showing the exposed board where the RF modulator used to sit so i can design something. if anyone can take a photo of that area and also let me know the board revision number that would be great.

More info later
