Hmmm on second thought, it was a pretty dumb post I guess as my suggestions seems pretty unrealistic.

In any case, I fully understand and respect Tonis reasoning for not wanting to work on this and netplay or not - I'm very (!) grateful for all the work he's putting into winUAE!

Enet perhaps?
It's an open source (MIT-like) and multiplatform network layer that works well and reliably. I believe it's used in the game Cube.
I've not used it in a few years, but it was dead easy to implement. See the tutorial for details.
