editing a files with opus

I noticed when I use dir opus and read files I see words but when I try to edit
them words look like code

how can I edit the words when any edit program wont see as I see it in read in opus

can any one help me or tell me what program I need to edit stuff I use hex edit on most non dos disks it good to edit hi scores and names so I can hav just my scores

no programmer but I know how to make a disk boot and make a dos menu to start programes and boxes to click

will some teach me Im a quick lerner am new to stuff but love to play and make my own disk setup to run programs or games from the pd full games

For standard text files click the file you want to edit so it's highlighted and then there should be a button called Edit (if it's a bog standard Opus 4 install). Double clicking on any file in Opus (unless configured to do something else) will try to read, run, display or play it by default which is why you cannot edit it. You could change the double click action for text files so it opens with a text editor such as Jano Edit or Cygnus for example which is what I do (I use Jano Editor).
