Amiga 1200 not booting - now seems fixed - ideas? And pr0N!

Hi there. My 1200 wouldn't start earlier due to not being used for ages I guess! HDD was spinning up, then down slightly, up, then down slightly - in a loop. Looked like a hdd prob. pulled it apart, removed the shielding which was a right mess, and checked all the caps etc.

Dodgy shielding - made me think there were serious issues below!

But once removed we have this: looks alright, what do you guys think?

Whole motherboard showing caps etc:

And the Blizzard 060 refitted. All works again

Now running without issues. Any thoughts on the HDD issues? Whether something was shorting on the heat shield, seems bizarre. Do we need the heat shield on (i'm guessing not!). And hey, doesn't that 060 look sweet eh?

My goodness, that shielding looks horrible - where did you store it?

The hard drive was probably due to lack of use. The head probably became stuck and has now worked its way loose.

Yes, the accelerator looks sweet.

Nasty shield I hate them, which is why any 1200 I poke my nose into loses the top half at any rate. Whilst you've got it open give the board a wee clean with some Isopropryl/meths/neat voddie.... should bring it up nice.

What Motherboard revision is it and how much ram have you got on your blizzy? (just out of interest). I had problems getting my 060 running on anything but a 1D4, because the "timing fix" needs doing on my other boards. And yes it looks pretty

@mosojon74

Man thats some of the Dirtiest Hardware Pr0n I have seen!!

... clearly using the airvents on the back of the A1200 to hold ones tea / coffee is not a good iead =D

(looking at the lable its also clear the board got wet too, throw that ghastly RF shield away or sand it down and spray paint a primer on it)

Lovin' the fnished pics, a Blizzy 060 always impresses ... NICE!!!

Hey all Thanks for the interest / help you guys One photo even got famous look here

OK: so:

Bloodwych - many thanks. Storage - just around - I can only think i spilt something on it at some point!! Disk seems to work fine now - once I find my silly tv --> monitor box power lead thing i'll try it out properly - been looking ages grrr!

ASM1 - just looked at the photo (hires one, it's not readable on the one on my space) it says 1d4 so that'll be why it's ok. I have 128 meg on it, 64 at the bottom, the other 64 on the blizz scsi.

Zetty - yep I think it's tea spillage or beer or something - I'm now binning the heat shield Allows me to fit the Indy scandoubler - which woudl prevent me looking for the stupid power supply for the tv monitor box!

Thanks again guys

Hi musojon74,

I hope you didn't mind me referring to your picture which shows the floppy drive support bracket in just the way I had described earlier in that other thread!

You are, of course. credited as the source for the photograph and this thread is given a mention too!

Thanks.

Sorry about the awful quality of the pics - it goes through composite up to the tv box. I need to get s-video output to it to improve - must buy that svideo mod

EDIT - and the G1 camera is sadly rubbish. Awesome phone though

I recently acquired an RGB-SCART lead for my Amigas, and the quality is superb!

Yeah, but I'm using an LCD monitor for these pics. I have an RGB Scart lead for the big telly which looks sweet. Sadly the missus is currently watchint Titanic (eeek) on it - again!

Why not go for the instead Indivision?

If you can't afford one then S-Video is the next best thing.

Hey Novacoder.

Got a HDD in there atm - until I stop being lazy and fit my cf-ide properly there's no room for indivision. Getting s-video for now from amigamaniac, will go cf-ide and maybe indi later

Yep CF fitting can be a bit tricky with an IndivisonAGA, I went for this method myself.

Is that actually rust on the metal shielding or was it a coffee disaster? or maybe even hot chocolate I find that most shiny metal shields eventually get very dull and then the metal starts to go black!

Itwas rust but I suspect caused by coke or tea. never mind all cleaned now!
