North & South - 2 player problem issues

Hello all,

As many of you already know what a great game this is (my thanks to AmigaOnline for sharing this with me some years ago!)

One thing we noticed, is that in playing 2 player - there was an issue with one player (did not matter which but would be one or the other) with having an issue when trying to move but also pressing fire button at the same time. In this situation, pressing the fire button would cause character to 'stop and fire' and then carry on moving in the direction pressed.

Apparently this is not the case when played on real Amiga, but only with WinUAE/FS-UAE... wondering if WinFellow (as a new version has been released corrects this issue) or if this is something that can be rectified by 'patches'?

in my memory problem was with Keyboard not joystick (i am not verifyed)

often winuae or other emulator use a key+joystick together... it's perhaps the problem if it's working on real amiga

have you tryed on winuae using real PC Joystick instead of Keyboard emulation for Joystick?

Yes, still no joy. It shouldn't matter if you select keyboard player (but use joystick) or whatever combination, you just get faced with problems. Even occurred on old WinUAEXP used for netplay.

i am not sure you are undersand

Joystick is emulated using keyboard (a key is used in same time for key and a joy position) so perhaps it casue trouble

But perhaps if you use real PC joystick (you must change WINUAE configuration for that) to play on winaue you problem will be removed.

I will try tommorow on winuae+REAL joy to compare

I've tried your suggestion and it was still a problem. Not tested personally on real Amiga hardware

in my memory problem was already persent on disk version

i'll test this evening quickly on real amiga and winuae with 2 usb competition pro joy for comparaison

it's planned but i'am afraid i can test it this week... many profesionnal woks to do (and professional examination to prepare at home at home )

but new weed is another week

in my memory on real amiga this problem is only with keyboard so only with second player because PL2 can only use keyboard...

With whdload's patch PL2 can use Joystick so perhaps it's fixed (or to fix), i'll try

if it's exact, perhaps i will can fix it on real amiga

for winaue (if fixed on real amiga), i will try if a special configuration is needed

I think you're right, it might just be the keyboard player (regardless of whether a joystick was used for player 2). Interestingly, was it not possible to play on 2 separate joysticks with this game?

yes using custom tooltype you can use with Joy or pad for player 2 and second button

normaly it must right fine with second joustick (without keyboard problem)but iam not again tested on real amiga.

if it's not working i'll update my patch... but test last week

Speaking of North & South (not to open another thread), is there a working ADF for A1200?
I downloaded 2 versions from my usual places and in both cases I get "Software failure" screen after hitting the "Go!" button to the right of the photographer.

it's already fixed (involontary) in last whdload patch here:

indeed it's only keyboard the problem...

so you must use my last patch forcing second joystick support for player 2 :

you must use tooltype:
CUSTOM1=1
or
CUSTOM1=3=> for second button support

CUSTOM1=1:To use second button (PL1&PL2) to select unit and CD32Pad for PL1
(if mouse connected PL2 can use LMB to fire and RMB to select unit+cursors)
