Smile If memorey serves right its .....

.... A hoax that was no more than an external box design in one of the last issues of amiga format about the time of Jim " talksalot but does nothing " Collas { I expect to get flamed for that guys ! but quite honestly IDGARA ! }
A proposed external " TV" set top box but I won,t bother plaguerising the original article as its existance is as far as I know a myth ..... Sorry

hmmm, two usbs at the front, must of been done in the last 5 years!

and if you considered that they've only just starting to put usb sockets at the front of desktops, that brings it to the last 18 months

That is one of the last vapourware designs for a new Amiga. It was post-Walker, probably designed by Gateway. Was it the MMC? Or was it one of those set-top box designs? I can't be bothered to dig out the relevant issue of AF to find out. Anyway, it was never made.

This design was chosen from a shortlist of three to go to prototype, but only the case was ever made. AF had sketches of all three designs.

Yep, I saw that on Merlancia's webpage the other day. Nice case, shame about the guts. Their webpage says it should be available this month.

The was officially presented in WOA99. I was in the show and I have photos from the computer+ a few slides from the presentation that took place. I may scan them and post them here.

woodshed57, if you attended that show, you should have know that Jim Collas had a vision and was moving towards that vision. I talked to the guy at that show (I was actually chatting with him all the time before the show) and he was down to earth.

This was not a set top box, but a real computer that was going to be based on the Transmeta family of CPUs. It was originally going to be shipped with QNX, but after moving to Transmeta, they got a deal with Torvalds (who helped in the design of Transmeta) for a heavily customized version of Linux as the next version of Amiga OS. Bear in mind that many former Amiga engineers were involved in the project and it was looking very promising.

Unfortunately, Gateway only wanted to use the name and not develop new hardware. Typical eh? Bunch of wankers just like the Tulip idiots! The project was sucked, Jim Collas was sucked, Bill McEwan and Fleecy Moss were sucked. Many moons later, the Fleecy and Bill decided to take control of Amiga. The saga continues (?)!

Smile Point Taken Manicx.......

...as a mere end user who never met the man my view is of a spectator not insider.... my knoledge of events is coloured by magazine article perspective and the Frustration of most miggy users at the time who were still waiting for " The New Amiga " we had heard promises from Escom that went nowhere and despite the vain hope history shows , that despite individual sincerity the " comercial new amiga " remains a dream . That is not to say like so many I don,t look for alternatives to PC standards I like choice too .
... This is not not an arguement as I respect your speaking from personal experience and I can only present a distorted second hand viewpoint that is tinged with disapointment ....again thanks for the insight

The MCC was the last Amiga. Once that project died, so did the platform

To me it looks like a very overpriced PC - can't see it setting the world on fire. I'll stick with my Miggy 1200 for now.

It was the now defunct Amiga from Gateway

This box is the design developed by Gateway when they had the amiga licence. I saw it at the Amigaworld Show in London 4 Years ago. they had lots of ideas for the amiga, but went bust or some such calamity not long after the show.. or within 6 months anyway.. a friend even bought a can of Amiga Cola.. which he still has..if anyone wants to see a pic of this can I will get a pic of it... ?? Needless to say this machine was never produced except for prototypes...
