Ahhh - this might be what I've encountered...I'd been creating a video trying to beat each mission without losing any men.

When you say "lose", do you mean fail missions completely (so it says try again)?

It's good to see work around this crash (by losing just before level 20 I guess, then continuing?) Cannon fodder is on my list of "must finish" games.

Didn't work unfortunately - I tried saving to the save disk, resetting the machine and then playing the mission again from the loaded game but same thing happened.

I also went back a mission and suicided a bunch of troops, then tried playing mission 20 and it crashes at the same point (sector 53 of the third disk).

In the end, I had to load the mission from a save disk I downloaded and finish the rest of the game that way.

I wonder who cracked Cannon Fodder 2, because AFAIR it had no protection whatsoever (DOS disks, no copylock)

It has a copylock, the french release had one and had to be cracked

It does not die. you have to swap between disk 2 and 3 when you meet the black screen, and press mouse button.

There is a BUG in the game !!! Exceed 250 recruits and the recruitment
screen graphics will corrupt, causing a crash. Choosing "unlimited
soldiers" will not allow you to exceed 250 recruits. IF you play the
game un-trained, there is no way you could reach this number anyway !!!

Both parts of the game have the same error.

oh yes, but indeed, even by really playing the game well, you will never get 250 recruits.

Cracked or originals as well? Perhaps they ran out of space and had to leave something out..

Original as well.
SPS 2332 (France) and unofficial German ipf both lacks helicopter.
