Setting up Controllers in FS-UAE Arcade?

I have controllers perfectly set-up in FS-UAE Launcher on macOS Sierra. Retro Joystick Adaptor 3.0 and 8Bitdo controllers work perfectly. They worked out of the box.

Trouble is, I can't get controllers to work in FS-UAE Arcade. When I launch a game in Arcade i get the option screen for controls. However, the only option I seem to have is to moving "Keyboard" with the arrow keys from "Joystick" => "Mouse" and vice verca.

Totally confused! Am I missing out something fundamental?

I'm using 2.9.6dev at the moment, but it's been like this since far earlier and stable versions.

No reply, so I figure it wasn't clear enough.

In Arcade all available joypads/joysticks are displayed on the screen, but I don't know how to select any of them. I've tried pressing ever button as well as any key on the keyboard.

As I mentioned earlier all controls work perfectly with Launcher.

OT: I'm having a retrogaming friend coming over tomorrow, so it would be nice to impress with Arcade (not that launcher is bad).

Hi, I'm guessing that the joysticks lack configuration. (They will still usually work fine with basic Amiga emulation, since that only strictly needs one button = all buttons are mapped to fire).

Go into Launcher settings -> Joysticks (or Controllers in the latest dev version), doubleclick on a device and map all the available buttons there.

(If you use a classic joystick via adapter, just map the fire button as "south button", you'll see what I mean).

(Sorry you missed it working for the retrogaming evening :-/ )

I'm not the TO, but that fixed my similar problem. Thanks!

I'm going to add explicit warnings when gamepads are missing configs (https://github.com/FrodeSolheim/fs-uae/issues/146) to avoid users getting confused when gamepads only work "sometimes".

Embarrassingly, I didn't notice the little instruction below the controller list. Maybe a "configure buttons" button or something else that is more eye-catching could help "blind" people like me.
