Thumbs up EAB 3.5 is coming !

EAB engine will soon move to 3.5 beta

What's new for end user ?

Database-Based Thread and Forum Read Marking

Yes, it's finally here! Now, instead of using cookies and inactivity timeouts to determine what should be considered unread versus read, EAB will be able to track this via the database.

Individual threads will be considered as read only if you read them. Also, as soon as you will have read all threads in a forum, it's light bulb will go out; no need to visit the forum list!

What's new for mods ?

You will be able to manage individual posts directly on the showthread page. From here you will be able to move a post or posts to a different thread, or to a new thread completely. You will be also able to merge multiple posts into a single post, delete or undelete posts and approve/un-approve posts in the moderation queue.
Moderation can also occur across multiple pages. You can check a box on one page of the thread, another box on a different page and then perform an action on both of them!

When ?

Well, I'm currently moving all my hacks to the new engine.
It could take time as my freetime is limited, anyway I hope to release EAB 3.5 this month !

Any chance with better search function? It filters and refuses to search a lot of so called -common- words at the moment. It can't be worse than database based forum marking in terms of performance can it?

Speaking of searches, what would be better is an option to search by phrase and not be limited by the fact that a word in the phrase is only 2 or 3 characters in length

Sounds good so far to me RCK

Lovely.

Uploading/attaching images to the messages, then being able to link/display them anywhere in the posts would be rather cool too.

Mysql Fulltext search will also being implemented, I have to check if result will be as good as now, but it may break the current "common" words limit

Improved search facilities would make the board much easier to use.

Will search engine (eg. Google) indexing of the board be broken by the upgrade - I think you want to try to keep it search engine friendly. I'm sure this is how plenty of people find the board in the first instance (e.g. me for example).

No modification on this point
I was speaking of EAB's own search engine.

Sounds good RCK, would be nice if every other forum I visited actually handled "read posts" properly too
