Interesting .

But I wonder: would it be possible to have, directly inserted into the Kickstart socket, a Kickstart replacement which could be erased and rewritten "in-place" by software?
Or would the Amiga inevitably crash?

It would be possible yes, but it would not flash the kickstart being in use. It would have to contain two kickstarts and switch on reset. Simply overwriting the active kickstart would crash the machine.

There is at least one such board available as a DIY-project on a1k.org.
I seem to remember something like this on Amibay as well.

I saw this auction:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Amiga-KIC....c100005.m1851

On the photographed screen it can be read "by SinSoft 1992".
I wonder if it's different from Relokick.
Is it perhaps more sophisticated? Maybe it can be used with other Kickstart/ROM files, since it shows on screen:
"Reading kickstart file...
Relocating...
Patching..."

Preying on the uneducated .

Partly the buyers fault if they purchase it for not checking around but it's still wrong
