4GB+ Partitions in OS3.9?
Morning all,
After replacing my 1200 motherboard last night, I thought I'd have another go with OS3.9. I'd encountered problems in the past with it, but thought I'd give it another chance. In the partition options, it allows me to partition a drive greater than 4GB in size. Is it safe to do this? The AmigaOS Versions entry on Wikipedia seems to suggest so, but I don't want to find my data starts to corrupt if I do this. Any pointers/suggestions would be appreciated. Many thanks! |

You can find several results if you search in Google of how to install a big partition, for example this http://wiki.classicamiga.com/Install...(4GB_or_larger), or this http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=32256, but the most important is a DH0 small (I had to use one with 1GB, but in others I have 500 Mb) and to use SFS, and here http://wiki.classicamiga.com/How_to_..._within_WinUAE you can see how using WinUAE.
If you have an internal Cd the sistem will crash if you don't use a patched Idefix with that HD. You will find the patch in Aminet Don't make partitions that will have in total more than 4Gb till you install OS3.9. Then you can add the others |

I found that the thing causing the problem was (as you state) making DH0 absolutely massive.
I've kept it around 300 meg, with the other partitions each weighing in around the 3gig mark. I'm on 3.9. |

And now you've got OS3.9 running? Remember to make the installation from the Emergency Disk. Now you can add the others with HDInstTools, http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/hdinst

If you have os39 fully installed then its all taken care of , nothing to be concerned about. Large drives and large partitions (upto around 120gb with default FFS) No extra software needed (apart from maybe relevent os39 boingbag updates and patches). Always best to keep first partition under 4gb though to make sure you have a fully working bootpartition before the patches have been installed.
