HD problems
Attempting to set up an Amiga HDD using WinUAE (16.10) ... the idea is we have a A1200 with 3.0 Roms but no hd. Floppy drive is damaged and i want to run games on it using WHDLoad
Have got 2.5" drive and 3.5 IDE adaptor lead... The drive is a 40gb Toshiba HDD Have read the various threads about here and still no joy SFS or FFS every time I format it is either an invalid DOS image Have tried HDInstTools from Aminet and HDToolbox but every avenue has failed including the KillerGorilla method Tried creating partitions of various sizes but no joy. Anyone any help on what I am doing wrong ? Will using WinUAE 2.0 sort out these issues? Obviously having 3.0 roms i can only use WB 3.0 is this a problem. |

It's rather difficult to help if you don't give any details.
The major steps are 1. set WinUAE to emulate an A1200 with IDE controller and connect the HDD to the IDE0 controller. This way you emulate exactly the situation of your real Amiga and problems related to drivers and such appear already in the emulation and not only on the real machine. 2. create a rather small boot partition. 500 MB is plenty. It must be smaller than 4GB. 3. install Workbench on this partition. 4. install the software needed to use more than 4GB. Details: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=49027 5. run FixHDDSize to make the additional space available to the partitioning tool 6. create additional partitions. Without step 4 you can only use the first 4GB of the drive. |
