The A1200 action replay uses the expansion slot under the 1200 and can also handle 4Mb (I think, might be 8 tho) of ram. So a processor upgrade is out of the question Pity really, you'd have thought they might use the internal clock port or something like those high speed serial ports do!
As for how it performs I cannot say as I had an 030 card installed when the Replay came out! |

But you can use the software Action Replay for the A1200, works nearly as good as the real thing on any A500
//update : btw. if you got a towerized A1200 with a Z-II Busboard, you can also use the Action Replay Card from the A2000 |

I Could never get the trainer commands working on the 1200 software version
Was there a full working version? and there is HRTMon which was quite a good copy of the replay, and seemed to work quite well. |

@RetroMan
the A2000 Version of AR will not work in A1200 Busboards because it fits into the 16bit CPU-SLOT of the a2000. and i think the AR software will be not 32bit compatible.. @Codetapper i could not find the AR4 on the Action-Site Is this the Blackhawk Version ? then i think i ve it somewhere Burnable eprom files would be great ;-)) - hey this is an idea upgrade ur MK1 or MK2 to MK3 .. If the ActionReplay is really avaiable for the A1200 (Hardware) i m interested .. |

@Shutter:
Do MK1, 2, and 3 all have the same board and only differ in the ROM ? If that's the case, could you tell me which kind of EPROM I need ? ( I hope it would be something like a 27512 or smaller, because that's the biggest ones I can burn...) Also does anyone know how I can open the AR's case without damaging it ? |

@Overdoc
i have a Mk3 - i opened it : there are 2 27C010 at 150ns seems to be 2x1Meg ? but they are SMD ,so taking them out for reading out is not so easy(read out by software?)..i dont know if in the Mk1/2 are olso SMDs perhaps not ...this would be much easier do you have a eprommer ? |

Ok, I also got my AR open without breaking the case
I think it is a MK1 because it doesn't have anything like MK written on it and I think the MK2 and 3 had II and III written over it in big letters. Ok, now the good thing is that mine has 2 32kB 27C256 Roms which I could replace with 27C256 Eproms, which my C64 Eprommer could burn There is also 2 8kB 61C65 Rams on the board, and 4 smaller ( 74.... ) chips. The bad thing is that it seems that the boards of each AR are different, so no software-upgrading My only hope would be that maybe the MK-II uses the same board as the MK-I since it was shortly released after MK-I and therefore perhaps ony was a software-upgrade ? |

Just out of curiosity exactly how many software versions of AR are there and do they all work?
and is there any chance of an AR function in WinUAE (I have seen the source for it!) |

Hmmmm
Seeing as the A5oo Version of the MKIII Action Replay didn't work on the A5oo Plus (kickstart 2.0), I doubt the A2ooo Internal card version would work on a Kickstart 3.0 machine.

Ok, I have got some info about AR versions.
Bad thing is that it is not possible to upgrade an AR to higher versions, because it seems that all 3 versions are completely different. The MK1 has 64kB rom and 16kB ram and has normal chips. The MK2 & MK3 are surface mount. The MK2 has 128kB rom and 32kB ram, and the MK3 has 256kB rom and 64kB ram. But there is a secret way to get an AR into 'sysop mode', from which you can read out the rom For AR1 type: LORD OLAF For AR2 type: MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU For AR3 type the same as above, and enter NEW when asked 'Try a new one'. Have fun ! |

But do YOU know where it is?
Ok, so you have the cheat, but where the hell is it?
Ok, look at addres $400000 is where you will find the start of the ROM for AR3. If you want to save it out to an AmigaDOS disk using the AR3 itself (hey, lets make life easy!), you can either save out the entire ROM, which would mean SM AR3.ROM $400000 $440000 or SM AR3.ROM $400000 $42ED00 As the program doesn't fit the entire ROM area For those that are interested, its in the Zone |

Yes, and for an MK-II the AR-guide says that the rom is located from $400000 to $41ffff and is repeated at $420000 to $43ffff.
So I assume the rom of the MK-I will go from $400000 to $40ffff since it is only 64kB. ( will check out my MK-I later ) |

Hmmm
I seem to remember that the hardware for the MK2 and the MK3 as being the same.
TRSI were offering to convert old MK2's into MKIII's when they first came out by burning a new ROM for the MK2 Last edited by Galahad/FLT; 22 February 2002 at 18:40. |
