A2000 PPC mod

Alright, i couldn't keep pace with the Walker project for the time being, weather-forbidding.. Things are at a pause due to low temps, and since making molds and stuff is done out in the open, i'm stuck inside the house with whatever means i have at hand to do Amiga stuff

So, when i saw a conversation at a nearby thread ( http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=50227 ) i thought i'd reveal my uber-secret project finally.

I know that thread wasn't hardware-specific, but seeing as i intend to use UAE on this project, i thought i'd get involved there... The target is a dual mobo machine, a PPC MacMini 1.4Ghz, and an Athlon 2.4. One to run MOS and whatever else possible, and the other to either run UAE or WinUAE, or maybe my Amithlon setup (time will tell).
So, if you visit the earlier thread you'll see a few pics there. They're quite recent. Shortly i'll up some more

That dark wide gasp there is in front of the slot-loading DVD

There you can see the drive's slot..

A metal sheet with holes for a PS/2 socket (pc keyboard) and two USB ports (mouse & kbrd for the Mini)

The jacks in place

This metal plate hosts the VGA, power switch, and audio out of the MacMini.

EDIT: I didn't realize until now that you had a Mac Mini in it...

Being honest, I don't think I like that idea pretty much... I thought it was a heavily expanded A2000

Allright, here's a few more..

The red arrow shows the MacMini's power led cable

This shows the teflon spacers i used for sitting the pc mobo in the case

A closeup of a spacer. It's adhered to the bottom, and drilled in the center to allow for the screw to fasten..

A "panoramic" view of the interior as is at the moment.

You can see most of the pc mobo, the ATX psu, and the rear end of the MacMini.

An update on the situation. The MacMini part is almost over. I need to take care of the ethernet and firewire extensions. So, here's a shot of the beast in action..

yes this inspired me to do amithon pc A2000 as i said will the pci slots line up
well they do and yes the cpu heat sink and memory stick fouled the drives
psu holing mounts. so choped it down and now it dont' he he whoa it fits.
jus gota fix it all in place.

yes like the idea of usung the front mouse ports
for usb will post a few pics soon if interested

turned out quite staitforward realy not to many hitches
removed alot of rear with angle grinder to fit pc mother board tray in and double sided sticky pads stop the psu moving oh well see for your self is ok
shapin up be up n runnin an a few days

@bigfoot catnap: Great! If you could take some sharper pics it would be even better! :-)
I see you took a different approach to place the mobo.. But it looks nice, and if PCI cards fall in (no reason not to), it'll be even nicer!! I chose not to practice violence on the case, so it could look as much to the original A2000 as possible. Looking forward to updates!

im with you on the comitin vandalism on the case but jus think of it like doing car body repairs its a nice bendy steel and will bend and cut nice
but be carefull not to blackend to much paint with the heat nice n slow cut

i love angle grinders but handle with care and wear saftey glasses hot metal n your eye ball hurts
and yes i did have a near acident the wheel pulled itself into the corner and jamed the steel behind the cutter and it all went horribly wrong
luckerly it jamed up and i was able to turn it off at the wall as my saftey
switch jams on
well it was a mess tried to wrap itself round the disk
but like all mild steel a few pulls and twists and beats with a hammer
was back in shape

i hate to think what is posible if it had tried to wrap itself round part of my anatomy

note to self get a new angle grinder with working saftey switch

I'm saving a Mitsumi old-style pc keyboard for when I create courage to destroy the case of a very dead A2000 I have.

heres a thought will amiga 2000 keyboard work with adapter
depends how much you want it to look real a2000

the thing i dont like about the amiga and some old keyboards is the coiling
wire like on old analog phones
tangles up on stuff all the time if u have to move it round

or there is the turn your amiga 1200 into a usb keyboard adapter!

is the mitsume keyboard any good then ?

The Mitsumi I have is an almost perfect CLONE of the A2000 keyboard. It even have the same needles and, of course, accepts real Amiga keys (I have a pretty dead A500 keyboard here for this purpose).

so im desperate to keep the 2000 looking origonal too as its impresionable
to users

options are
the din to ps2 conectors are an option but not worth messing with due to
the controler chip on amiga board to comunicating with ps2 socket
so we use a ps2 board with a2000 chassis STUFF THE COILY LEAD

the dimentions are near so evil plans invole a mitsumi pc board and 2000
chassis am i correct ? oh and some amiga a500 key caps
