Newbie joypad help

hi
im new to the winuae game so all help would be greatly appreciated.
i just bought a joypad convertor so i can use my ps2 pad with winuae.
the problem is that the response time is very poor and i cant figure out how to configure the buttons.
a brief tutorial would be great

Try lowering WinUAE's priority (normal or below normal in priority-panel)

USB converter? Windows version? Does it need special drivers? Usually drivers coming with joypad adapters are not too good but fortunately most are HID-compatible = no need for any extra (crap) drivers.

Buttons and everything can be configured in input-panel.
