PPC chip heatsink, removed
Holla, I have just needed to remove the heatsink on my CSPPC chip to get the part number, and I would like to know if I need any compound on it before I put it back on? There was none on it in the first place.
Thanks |

I would as it'll make a good sound contact to the heatsink to help disperse any heat, even if it's not needed.

A thin smearing is usually all that's needed. I think a pea size amount would be too much, it really only needs to be thin to provide a perfect contact between chip and heatsink.
It's hard to explain how much, you just have to really judge it yourself, just make sure it's not too much where the compound is squirting out from in between the chip and heatsink. |
