What about Turrican and Turrican II!?

Seriously, this is great stuff. Even just the peek into how the game is built up in the inside.

Edit: Looking through I see there's a gametools directory. I'd love to see what that is when running.

This makes me wonder. Out of all the games out there, you don't see the source code very often. I wonder how much of it is archived away somewhere, and how much of it gets completely lost. When Atari creates their Retro packs, I wonder if they are emulating the original ROMs, or actually using original source.

All the Thalion source code was archived on an Amiga 2000 at BlueByte and it was accidentally thrown away in 2002 shortly after Eric Simon left the company. I had been nagging at him to send it me for several years but not hard enough

That's a very sad story It would have been very interesting to have a look at the Ambermoon source.

There is a slim chance the author Jurie Horneman might have a copy but I doubt it.

Might be an idea to make a sourcecode preservation project. Maybe it could just be attached to the HOL info and hosted on a different webspace.

i tend to think that if not specifically released from the copyright holders, the sourcecodes would not see the light of day...

Yup, but if they release the sourcecode I think it would be a good idea to gather it at one place I agree that getting the sourcecode is much harder than just the game itself, but as the Turrican 3 example shows it's not impossible

The line with 20 is redundant , but we should preserve it as the shortest code in history

Since turrican 3 is code is well documented and mainly very clean, it would be nice
to let our god coders comment the code

Would be excellent, now no one can say, puh i can't make a 50 fps miggy game with all the fuck i want inside.

In HOL it says Peter Thierolf joined Neon Studios (the developers of Mr. Nutz: Hoppin' Mad) while coding Turrican 3. The Amiga Mr. Nutz graphics engine was then used as the basis for Amiga Turrican 3

The WRITE longtrack program is on Disk_3 in turrican III source code archive.
As much as I appreciate it being there to snoop around in what Peter programmed... this program alone will not help you at all. Factor 5 used modded NEC drives (made by Jens Schoenfeld, Aachen, Germany - he does currently produce and sell retro hardware like the Catweasel floppy controller) which did spin the disk at a lower speed. You will not be able to write longtracks with any standard Amiga. Looking from that perspective, the Turrican games where never actually "protected". They just over-formatted the discs so they would not need a second one, also causing pirate copies to come on two disks.

In "Turrican" there is a little block in level 1-3 that doesn't appear in (some) cracked versions. You need to destroy this block in order to finish the level...

Ok, to be more precise let the wording be like this: They did not have any additional disk protection because the long tracks they used for storing data did also work as a copy protection. The missing block in level 1-3 seems to be code protection which was triggered by tampering with the loader or similar.
