New but not new!

Hey all, just joined the forum. I got my start with Commodore 8-bit machines but jumped to PCs after my trusty C128 started getting a little long in the tooth, so I never really experienced the Amiga world. I did use an A3000 for a few years back in the mid 90's for video work but never really explored beyond the specific software I was using.

Fast forward to today and been getting back into the retro scene and I still had that old A3000 tucked away in a closet along with a defunct 1084S. A full recap, a new flyback, and HOT and the monitor is as good as new. The 3000 had a pretty leaky battery which I cleaned up and replaced -- thankfully the damage was only cosmetic. Other updates include 3.1.4 ROMs/OS, a SCSI2SD to replace the ailing Quantum drive, and a WiModem232 to get online.

It's been a lot of fun learning how to set this thing up and work through the issues I've run across. Looking forward to being a part of this community and picking up some knowledge!

Nice hardware setup Armitage, and regards for doing the repairs! It's even more fun to use the hardware when you fixed some hardware problems.

While it was never a favorite of mine, the TI was my family's first computer so there is a little nostalgia there. I picked up that beige model for $23 USD complete with original box, joysticks, etc. Really couldn't pass up a deal like that.

I have my original stainless version that I had as a kid in a box. I don't know if it still works. That was my first computer as a kid.

Nice. My family's machine is long gone now, but it was a beige model, so I wanted to have one to match. I'd say haul it out and give it a go, but there's not that big of a fan base for the machine so the homebrew is pretty sparse. There are some fun game ports and a few demos (that require a heavily expanded system) though. There are also a handful of modern hardware updates like the the FlashROM99 and FinalGROM carts, some DIY ram expansions, and a few virtual disk/IO type devices like the nanoPEB, TIPI, etc. A far cry from all the cool Commodore 8-bit and Amiga stuff on the market today though.

Thanks for the info. I remember the days typing in programs for hours at a time and saving them to cassette. There was also munch man where I came across a pattern that as long as you did not screw it up you would clear the level every time. I may just have to crack open the box in the next couple weeks and see how it works.
