There are a lot of early original games that will only work on an A500, you may be able to get some working on an A600 by mucking about in the Early startup menu but for true retro the A500 is a must. Now that ipf's can reproduce your originals the A500 i think has/will gain a little more popularity/respect and of course value.

also, the HxC floppy emulators is wonderfull for the A500 too. It compenstates for not being able to have easy to access flash card hard drives etc. like in the A1200.

this makes the A500 a much more viable cheaper alternative.

After owning my A500 for approx 16 years and knowing how much it originally cost straight out of the factory, I find it hard to accept that it's currently only worth up to £50 including delivery on eBay.

For this reason, I'm planning to hold on to my A500 (obviously assuming it's still working OK) until it's worth around its original straight out of factory price (I know I could be waiting a long time - although, I have recently bought the original box for it ). I only paid £50 for my A500 in 1995(?).

I just feel the history of the computer, fact it's up to 24 years old and how much you can do on it compared to say a little 128k Spectrum is worth so much more than the £50.

Do any other A500 owners feel like this?

P.S. I know the A500+ currently fetches more than the A500 on average due to it being a bit rarer.
Only Amiga 1500, 2500, latest-rev 4000T(?) and possibly CDTV are 'collectibles', apart from this any expansion for any model will always be more collectible than the model itself.

Only expanded Amigas will be likely to fetch more than 0-100 EUR. I wouldn't even count on inflation to increase that, since the potential market and its interest in it shrinks, and the condition deteriorates (unless you care for it, of course).

But that's antiquity-dealer talk. We're not there yet, and certainly you won't see mass-market consumer electronics at Sotheby's. If you're not using your A500, consider selling it to someone who will.

Probably better off keeping a mint A500+ with no battery leakage (although i sold mine recently )... I still have a basic A500 somewhere that another EAB member gave me a couple of years ago (DoogUK - whatever became of him ).
