a500 hd8+ gvp and MO scsi drive

I am having problems installing external 68pin Iomega SCSI MO drive 1.3gb to my amiga. I have correct cable scsi II 68pin to 25pin. Tried different jumper setting amiga only boots if MO drive is powered off or gvp hard drive is terminated? I installed FAT95 and MO package from aminet with includes dos drives to different MO disks. I tried also scsi mounter it doesent find any devices hd just works without that mo drive

Hilfe! Hjälp! Help

Do you have any other devices on the SCSI bus? Which SCSI ID are your hard drive and the MO drive set to?

Have you enabled termination on the MO drive (assuming it's at the end of the SCSI chain)? DIP switch 4 should be on to enable termination, see the user's manual.

If you're using an external terminator you need to disable the MO drive's built-in terminator.

If you boot with the MO drive powered off, then turn the drive on after booting completes, can you still access your hard disk?

What is the exact model number of your hard disk?

I'd still like like to know your hard disk model number and its jumper settings, but the problem is most likely related to SCSI termination. Your HD8+ may or may not have hard-wired termination. Looking at the HD8+ page on the Amiga Hardware Database, there are pictures of two board versions. The rev. 3 one probably has hard-wired termination, the rev. 6 one looks like it doesn't.

If your HD8+ does have hard-wired termination, with both a terminated hard drive and an external terminated drive, the SCSI bus is terminated three times, which is not correct. The technically correct thing to do would be to disable the HD8+ termination. But if that involves cutting or desoldering components you probably won't want to do that. So here are a couple of things to try first:
- Disable termination on your MO drive; set DIP switch 4 to OFF. Check whether your system works like that. If it does, great. If not...
- Disable termination on your hard drive and enable termination on the MO drive (that should be the best option without needing to modify your HD8+).

That's not good. Is your drive model DCAS-32160? The product specifications and OEM specifications are available in PDF format. The OEM specs are much more detailed, 232 pages. But the important bit about jumper settings is on page 2 of the product specs. There's a jumper block on the drive PCB, shown in the diagram there.

First check whether your HD8+ has on-board termination. If you're not sure you could take a picture of your HD8+ board and post it here, I'll tell you.

If your HD8+ does have on-board termination, you should make sure your hard disk is not terminated. Make sure there is no jumper in the JP6 position.

If your HD8+ does not have on-board termination, you should make sure your hard disk is terminated. Install a jumper in the JP6 position.

Checked there are no termination jumper at hd8+ board. Hard drive is keepin odd noise maybe it just broken bad blocks. Disk Salv fixed some trying fixit with QBtools also. I was wondering crash happened when cdrom installion asked cd-rom buffer hd partition installation. I prepared my hd with gvp prep disk using bufffer memory setting was that mistake? buffer conflict or what?

WORK BITMAN INVALID
OTHER PARTITIONS ARE VALID

The HD8+ board doesn't (as far as I know) have a jumper to enable or disable termination. If it has termination, it will have resistor packs soldered to the board.

Does your HD8+ board look like a rev.6? At the amiga-hardware.com HD8+ page click the Image of Rev 6 motherboard link. From that pic, you can see the square AM33C93A SCSI chip and to the right of that RN2 and RN3, which are empty spaces for terminating resistor packs. So that particular rev.6 board doesn't have on-board termination.

On the other hand, look at the earlier rev.3 board pic at amiga.resource.cx. That has a rectangular WD33C93A chip. There seem to be terminating resistor packs to the left of that chip. So that particular rev.3 board does have on-board termination.

Its rev6a with 4.15. btw i changed hd to other 19gb ibm scsi 50pin and now asimcfs scsi inquiry detects iomega MO drive as ID2. Sometimes it detects also HP CD-RW burner but not always? With other hd (thar 2.1gb ) it wont boot even jumpers are correctly set.. I have those yellow resistors and manual also says something about those. Il continue that project as soon il get new inspiration

HP scsi drive is like this one
