ADF Virus

Hi Guys, is there a way that I can scan my ADFs for viruses and repair them on my PC, I have been informed that I have the Byte Bandit Virus on one of my adfs and I need to remove it so it stops infecting my other ADFS.

Regards,

Strages

i zoned a AntiVirus-Boot.adf - which has the very good VirusTest V3.17.
only trouble , it is in german - but has some english "instructions" - messages.

disk is bootable - so just start a new winuae session - insert the antivirus-boot.adf and boot with "quickstart 1200" setup.

insert your infected adf ( or a copy of it ) now in df0:

once started it ask to search for polishvirus , push "ja" ( yes ).
next on mainscreen try these scan-methods:
BlockITest, FileTest and BlockKette - > push the DF0: button next to the scan-method-area.

some kind of viruses need BlockKette others need Filetest to get removed ,
just try until you get a message about repair "loschen" - cannot recall exactly.

if you are unsure about a command, message, make a screenshot and post it here, someone will translate

zoned: How to enter the Zone

I would strongly recommend adfscan v.1.9b1 or adfchk_v022.

This will scan all your adf, dms and even inside zipfiles.

I have Zoned both files for you.

np. happy hunting & happy new year too

edit: use "Quickstart A1200 with 4MB Fast Ram expansion" - since the program uses more than 2MB

thanks. never heard of them, i think. i gonna try them too

edit: usefull tools for windows, but they do only scan/check/detect - some viruses.
these tools do not remove detected viruses. so we still have to use amiga-anti-virus software.
thanks anyway for the hint

Hi Guys, the reason I posted this thread is because Im using the HXC floppy emulator in my Amiga 500 and a lot of the games arent working. They get stuck on bootup at the this is not a dos disk screen. I contactd Jean at HXC and he told me that one of my adfs had the byte bandit virus which would render other adfs useless as well. I tried using the German Virus scanner with not much success. Would I be able to up one of my Adfs for someone to scan for me and let me know if it is in fact infected? Please let me know

the zoned disk"STATEOFTHEART" = "State of the Art (1992-12-29)(Spaceballs)[f mem SR][TP2#1]"
is working ADF.
Its rather unlikely, that a NDOS disk has a virus.

You have to be very careful when dealing with a virus on your real machine. Once you encounter an indication that a virus is active ("not a dos disk" in your case) you have to switch off the Amiga and remove the disk from the drive. If you do not do this and insert another disk (or ADF) this other disk will become infected immediately. This way sooner or later your entire ADF collection will be infected.

Note that this "not a dos disk" game cannot be repaired. There are two ways to get a "not a dos disk".

- a virus like Lamer Exterminator randomly overwrites blocks on the disk with garbage. This way a disk which formerly was a DOS disk becomes NDOS. It may be possible to rescue some files from such a disk but not all.

- every boot block virus will overwrite the boot block of a new inserted disk. The virus boot block behaves like a standard DOS boot block and thus is not recognised if the disk is a DOS disk. But for games it was a usual protection to be NDOS all the time and to store specific loading routines in a custom boot block. This custom bootblock has now been overwritten by the virus and cannot be restored. This game has been destroyed permanently because the custom boot block is an integral part of the game's code.

so is there a windows tool with a GUI to scan adfs so I can check before using them on my Amiga?

Brand new tool by member "Crashdisk" called "DMS-Workshop" for example!
http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=71922
It detects a lot of(not all) known viruses(boot, file, link).

I have no idea, what the zoned file format could be, its not standard 880kb ADF.
"Ghosts 'N Goblins (1988)(Elite)_adf.hfe"

sorry mai i removed that file, it is the file format my hxc floppy emulator uses, I have to convert adfs to hfe for them to work on my emulator.
