Definate spammer, a job well done

I maintain that no geniune poster will give 2 hoots about their signup being banned, having registered, I would suggest they would actually care enough to use the 'contact us' feature asking why they were banned rather than just take it on the chin and never return.

Lets not forget genuine new users register for a reason, even if it is to grab from the zone or whatever.

Exactly

Also don't forget that when someone gets banned you need to give a reason. I usually write "Spam Account!!!" so if the person bothers to read the PM they would know exactly why (which spammers wouldn't but genuine people would).

if this is all automated on some kind of script (account creation) then how about changing the name of the register.php link to something different every few hours?

http://eab.abime.net/register.php to http://eab.abime.net/register1.php for example

Or have a question instead of the Captcha...

For example;

Type in the name of the game at the following (Random) link from the HOL database...

I think these things are a bit more complicated than that and they are not easily fooled.

They do have a module for vBulletin 3.8 available but it's marked as legacy and is not under active development.

I have added the plugin to check every new registration with vbStopForumSpam database, let's see if it reduce the fake account

If it's not enough, we will activate one kind of "new member validation team" mission.

I would say that it's been quite successful so far

Ok, a few "manual" spammers have infiltrated but that's always going to happen...

From my own personal perspective; I'm only having to ban / remove 2 - 5 per day as opposed to 10 - 20

..yup, it's still early days though.

Other GMs, what's your *spam* workload been like?

Oh no, watch out... Akira will immediately report your post to moderators when he sees this as you've included a Tapatalk signature

@Akira; just playing with ya... yes, this should be reported as it's the forum rules so...

I just don't care so much about this as other GMs / moderators / members do; there's more important things to deal with.

Very light for the last few days, so I join your opinion of vbStopForumSpam seeming to be quite successful.

Let's wait the week-end and see, since it is usually the most active period in terms of spam.

Feel sorry for you guys cleaning this chump’s mess up.
Feel slightly sorry for the chump as well, jumping through hoops to post this nonsense. It must be semi-automated.
+1 for the idea of moderating a new user’s first post. If that doesn’t solve it we really are being trolled.

Thanks guys

Yup, saw him join midday...

...but left him as nothing had happened until very recently.

Now banned after creating a thread in the OT section and was in the middle of creating another one in the Coders section...
