Hi!

Just one thing about burning CD32 isos:
You don't need to use CD-R from trademarks like Verbatim, BASF or other any "well-known" trademark
Why??
Because as you surely know, the CD32 drive IS NOT made to read CD-R in fact
Some expensive CD-Rs have some additionnal layers to protect your CD like Gold layer etc..etc...
It's not better in any way because the laser of the CD32 is not powerfull enough to go through those additional layer and read the CD successfully and fast...
As you surely know, CD-R needs more laser power to be read....

The best result i've got with CD-R on my real CD32 is by using the CHEAPEST CD-R of the world and burning it In 2X speed..
I mean CD-R in splindle with no printing on it.........
It has worked for my friends too

About Os Flashing and loading, Whitesnake is right:
It's because of WHDLoad wich loads all the data in ram, so when there is not enough ram to put the program in it, WHDload just take a pause to refresh ram with new datas and unload used ones when it's needed.....

I can back the cat up on that. When I was doing backups on my Saturn, which is probably the same general era of CD-Console games unit, the games that ran the best were burned to those HORRID NAKED FOILTOP CDRS. The ones that are ruined if you barely touch them. I'm sure they have some that had SOME protection on top, but honestly those worked great. Just... had to be sure you backed them up somewhere on a better medium of storage...

Believe it or not, the cheapy-cheap plain ones were the ones I used first, they loaded eventually... but anyway... I now think my cd32 laser maybe off slightly.

If this gets posted in another help thread then ok, but to be honest I started this thread to do with this compilation, so will type this here for now.

The cd spins up, then kinda reverse spins for a second, slows down, then stops, then spins up again... this repeats for say 12 times, until something loads.

With the games & demos comp in this thread, it usually loads the title screen fine, then seems to take an extra 30 seconds to load the music. But it's when I select either Games or Demos (red or blue button) that it takes forever loading, sometimes not loading at all! Constant spin ups, stop spin, spin up again, stop spin, etc etc. And to move from A section to B section sometimes takes almost 2 mins!

Ok, obviously you're thinking, try other cds, especially originals. Well I have a few backup copies and originals. The original of Liberation works perfectly! The backup of Liberation (which I burnt a good 2 years ago) seems to take longer and sometimes does this same thing of cd spin stopping, then retrying. Simon the Sorcerer Original skipped once when loading speech during the intro, kinda funny how the last second of speech is repeated like a stuck record, as the cd spins, stops, spins, stops, spins and then loads the next part. The backup seemed to work fine. Also the intro to the backup of Pinball Illusions, the music on the 2nd opening credits (just before you select the table) was about 45 seconds late due again to the failed loading and re-spinning.

So... does anyone know about re-aligning the cd laser? I remember a page on the net from a good 2 or 3 years ago, but cannot find anything now.

Also, has anyone else ever experienced this problem? Almost my entire collection of about 50 cd32 original games seem to be fine, but a few skipped and had to re-spin a few times to load.

I'm tempted just to buy a new cd32, I remember my old CD32 had similar problems, but only with backup cds... strangely I used to find that by tilting the console slightly it would load everything perfectly. Sadly that doesn't help this one.

Can anyone help? Or has anyone had this problem before?

<< Sorry if this thread should be moved, if I add anything new to this, I'll do it in a new thread in Problems section >>

I've got this problem too before.....
On aminet if you search for "CD32 alignment" you will find a file wich is called
cd32-adjust.lha....i've not tried it but the method surely works
Personally i've opened my CD32 and just adjust the potentiometer near the lens to have more voltage on the lens (that mean less Ohms for the potentiometer) .......and it works well........BTW,try it at your own risk

Good Luck!!

EDIT: Hmm, the DL of 888 did not work (the archives were damaged). Now I have to wait for 24h, before I can try again?
Because I now get the message from the server, that I reached my DL maximum....

Looks like Rochabian is going to have to use a different free file thats accepts split files of larger size projects.

I will remind him that has now increased it maximum split size to 100mb now and it has NO limitation on HOW many times is Downloaded or HOW BIG the TOTAL eventual size is.

Also have you tried James Pond 3? i get this error when i just simply copy the cd contents into a dir and load it. Also noticed the iso has a bogus size like System 3 ones maybe another protection scheme?
http://img230.imageshack.us/my.php?i...p3error1zx.png
Could this be the work of cd32.tm?
Edit: I also read from an article that the copy protection on James Pond 3 is classed as "invisible"

Hi!

@Rochabian:

Thanks a lot for inclunding my comps on your HP

@Whitesnake:

Humans3: Sorry no idea! I did most work under e-uae, as
my cd32 was dead at this time...

JamesPond3: Yep, i know this error too good (have it seen often )
I guess it has s.th. to do with a mixture of
"too many files on the cd",
"James Pond has to lie in the root dir of the cd"
"volumename"

Sorry for not having been very helpful!

cheers

The Humans 3 works it is The Humans that doesn't work
Also i got that error when i just tried James Pond 3 from a root
directory. "I copied the cd contents into a folder and used that folder
as a cd in WinUAE"

@frostwork: Is there a chance to get the 888 compilation somewhere for DL?
As you know, the DL link on Rochabians HP does not work anymore.
