Gotek DF1?

Im thinking of buying a Gotek to use as a cheap USB solution to transferring from laptop to real A1200.

Is it possible to force the Gotek to be accepted as DF1?

My HxC works a DF1 so I don't see why a Gotek wouldn't work. Why not just use a pcmcia card reader and a memory card with fat95 to make transfers? the bits would cost you less than a tenner and it's hot swappable.

If you want to transfer to your A1200, go for a PCMCIA memory card adapter instead.

Okay let's pretend (I have to as I know you're a very good programmer!)

The attached pic is the bits I use. You can insert and remove it while the Amiga is on and it will appear on WB as a normal drive. It will be formatted fat32 so it can be read in Windows to transfer your files quickly.

You will need these two packages installed from aminet and you're all set:

http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/fat95
http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/cfd

Here is the adapter I use (might be able to find it cheaper that was just a quick ebay search) and then you need a compatible CF card as not all of them work. Usually the ones that work in the pcmcia slot are the ones that won't work over the Amiga IDE port.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311605531352

Hope that helps!

Piss!!

Picked the wrong time to change laptop, doesnt have CF card port, but I suppose I could just get one of those generic USB multi card readers, (i have a spare Canon CF card), and the pcmcia adaptor, and it might work........hmmmmm,

Maybe a bit pricey (on top of the Gotek cost) but THIS kinda thing is readily available too if you didn't want to scrap an old external drive...

+1 for a card reader in the pcmcia slot! Gotek for file transfer is cumbersome to say the least.

Looks like the pcmcia card reader is a go then. My A1200 is now officially setup in a place that doesnt offend the missus, and will be getting real usage for the first time in nearly 14years

Just use a usb card reader. No laptop has had a PCMCIA slot for the last ten years.

Thanks to Super Duper, I now have a PCMCIA adaptor, CF card and drivers disk

I also bought today from ASDA a £6 Polaroid multi card reader which means the CF card can be connectdd to the laptop for transferring data to the Amiga.

I love Winuae, but real world testing is sometimes necessary as the results can differ sometimes.

On another note, Recoil the Atari ST conversion was tried yesterday on real hardware for the first time and it worked fine
