CrossDOS and MMU Issues

Hello, I've got an issue with my 1200 and decided that It is time to join a community to discuss it with experts.

First I got an Escom Board, which is unable to work with an aca1230. After some e-mails between individual computers and me I decided to buy another one. But nevermind this issue.

My new board, this time a Commodore 1200 with Rev 1D4 does indeed work with the aca1230 but has another problem, that I can't find through searching on the internet.

I'm unable to use CrossDOS. If I use it PC0: doesn't show up and the drive keeps spinning, while the floppy light is on. If I remove the disk and insert it again, it continues to spin. It seems, that the trackdisk.device hangs.

My Escom Board hasn't this problem.

Is something like that known ?

The removal of the aca1230 doesn't solve the issue.

I've forgotten something.
The title of the thread is wrong, as it turned out, that the aca1230 leads to sound issues in the whdload install of Z-Out. But that should be a software issue.

Also I want to add that the MMU of the ACA1230 doesn't seem to work with WHDload.
If I use it, the system hangs even before displaying the whdload splash screen.
I know, that the ACA was also sold with no MMU. But I'm pretty sure I have one.

first of all use fat95 http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/fat95
for crossdos replacement

and use sysinfo to check if you have a mmu

Hi Slamy and welcome to EAB!

How should I change the title and would you like the thread to be moved to support.Apps instead?

sysinfo says "68030 (NOT IN USE)".

I've also tried the mmu.lib, which seems to be able to work as it displays the pagetable.
But the maprom functionality of this lib crashes the system.

fat95 has the same problem.
After it detects df0:???? it hangs.

Thank you.

Please change it to "CrossDOS and MMU issues". If you say, that this is a software issue you can move it. But I don't really know.
The software problem with this game shall not be discussed here. I've already contacted the whdoad slave developer of the game.

To test the MMU simply issue the command "CPU FASTROM" in a shell.

Don't use the kickstart remapping of the ACA1230 at the same time or the system will hang.

If I run "CPU FASTROM" nothing really changes, but sysinfo says "68030 (IN USE)" in the MMU field. So I'm guessing it's a whdload issue ?

Is there any advantage to using FAT95 over the included CrossDOS? I imagine it'd include long filename support.

LFN support is the most visible improvement.

Is someone with an aca1230 able to test WHDLoad with MMU ?
I've used Z-Out and Turrican from KillerGorilla for the Test.
I mean, I just guessed, It would correct some software issues. Tell me If I'm wrong. But it's still interesting why it doesn't work, If it doesn't.

I still wonder about the crossdos issue. It just worries me, that my seconds a1200 has some issues, that might affect some more important things than reading fat disks and I've bought 2 faulty devices.
