I see
Another idea without actually knowing specifics, but: if these bots register and post right away, how about having an extra "bot check" for new accounts that register and post within a minute (or two) from having finished registration? Also: how about implementing Recaptcha? |

Just forbid posting links for newly created accounts. How would they bypass that ?

The change was made some time ago.
We are aware that it does not prevent all spammers. At least we try to deal with the reported ones as quickly as possible. |

It pisses me off these spammers popping up again and again. I keep reporting them every time.
Can I become a moderator just to help on this? I would like to help in quickly deleting spammers accounts and delete spam threads. I feel I need to do something else than whine about this, something more productive and contributing. |

In post #25 I already ask why we don't send new users a fuzzy image of a registration key per email which they need for activating their new account? Isn't that possible with vBulletin or too dufficult? A fake email address won't help them much. RCK would only need a pregenerated table with registration keys and their images.

Maybe I could create a "newly registered" group for all new member, and they would not be allowed to post LINK (message body or sign) until they have something like 10 posts (they would be auto moved to usual "registered" group") ? but I'm afraid it won't slow down the quantity of member to moderated, it's just that their new posts won't have links. just stupid text. |

And did they always use alias email addresses, so that blocking makes no sense? Blocking the whole domain for a certain time could be unfair for possible other new users at the same provider, but could help to keep the spammers out for a while. You could keep a whitelist with the email addresses of all the "good old" users and a blacklist with the domains of all known spammers.

It's not the HTML links specifically that are annoying, but the fact that they spam... stopping them from posting HTML links won't change anything, they will just obfuscate the links and write the same large annoying posts.
Just hide their posts until admins approve them. |

If your current mod team cannot find the time to do so, add someone as a spam mod and let them do it. It's annoying enough people, you already have Galahad, gulliver and myself offering our services on this. As I said before no real new member is going to be upset about us trying to stop spam. Other thn peoples time, there really isn't a downside to premoderation of new members posts. |

And another spam post. In the middle of the day too, this twat is deliberately taking the piss and laughing his head off over it! When is something going to be done about it? It's more than annoying now.

RCK did suggest in a thread about spam located the private GM section that maybe we should have to approve new members' posts.
...I think it's time to do this. Since December last year we have been cleaning / banning 10 - 20 per day Ok, it's more work for GMs but not as much as constantly dealing with spammers. |

Yeah, I bet it's a real bind. This prat is sometimes posting several threads overnight so its bound to be grating first time you log on.
Something has to be done because nothing has worked up to now, ignoring the twonk and just deleting the posts hasn't worked so its time to get pro-active! |

I have an idea to stop all this.
Change the default language of EAB to French (and French only) - they'll never be able to register if they don't understand the language Unfortunately (for RCK) he will have to put all us uber-cool members into a French language course located in Paris so that we can login and talk again The course will feature a breakfast (croissants with a selection of marmalades, strawberries and selection of coffee and teas). Lunch will also be served with the end of the day featuring a game of Fire and Ice with DamienDs hotrod. |

Here's the next fool: AepbcZoort
It always ends it's membership name in "Zoort" and posts spam / URLs about casinos ...caught while "Users Awaiting Email Confirmation". |
