Unhappy WinUAE and *.exe files

Hi everybody.
Sorry if it has already been posted but I did not find any "real" answer to that question...
It is quite simple : How can I launch an abc.exe file using WinUAE in Workbench Mode (3.1) ?
I put the abc.exe file in Disk Drive DF0 and when I launch WinUAE, this message pops up:
This is a self extracting disk data file, usage : This file <TargetDrive>
And I really do not know what to do ! I used abc.exe <DF0> but it do not work...
Thank you for reading !

How are you booting to the Workbench screen - via floppy (adf) or virtual hard disk set up?

the exe is the name of the disk on the pc side, not the amiga side. so there won't likely be a abc.exe on the disk, just boot it like you would a normal adf.

.EXE means its a PC program, for use on PC's, not amiga.

The position you have put the .EXE, is for DISK IMAGES ONLY (ADF, IPF).

I mean what exactly is 123.exe, it might need running on a PC (Self etracting ZIP) to extract the image, then you put the contents (now extracted) into Winuae.

I see the drop down box contains all the formats in one line... maybe why i did not see .EXE support. I see it has .ZIP

Maybe if Winuae had different lines for the formats supported like other programs....

Amiga disk format - *.ADF
Caps Images - *.IPF
Zip files - *.ZIP
GZIP Archives - *.GZ
Zipped ADF - *.ADZ
etc
etc
All files

Instead of all on the one line

Amiga disk files (*.adf;*.adz;*.gz;*.dms;*.fdi)
ALL files

Belgarath : I used the normal boot (ie : Without using the Workbench mode) but... Same message.
WhiteB : I cannot use abc.exe on my PC either ! Error message (Under a DOS window) : Program too big to fit in memory !
Otherwise, how would you "extract" files you were talking about ?

put the .exe in the zone (read the faq to find out how to get access) and someone will probably have a look to see how to get it working.

I do not want to launch this file in particular, but ANY other *.exe file...
Would that mean anybody was never able to make a *.exe file work on WinUAE ?
Am I cursed ? Well, enough for today.
I am going to sleep (It is 2:00 AM in France) ! Bye for now and thanks to both of you.

It all depends on the EXE, if the EXE is a PC executable file, then it WILL NOT WORK.
If it is just an EXE as in Self Extracting Zip files, then I believe that Winuae supports these, and will read them, to boot. What is the EXE, where did you get it from.. we need more INFO.

If it is an amiga EXE (like a demo that takes over the system) it should work!

Whiteb.. check out the tosec .exe sets

Okay then, lets recap what we learned so far....

The EXE is a demo that takes over the system, but is not necessarily a DISK image..

Then the Original poster has to load Workbench first (ADF or HDF or whatever) before he tried to run the demo. ?

WinUae can boot amiga exe files. you just pop them in df0:

You may need to use an earlier kickstart to get this running. Zone it so we can take a look.

Amiga executable is mounted as a virtual adf that contains the executable (name is always "runme.exe") and s/startup-sequence.

I guess you need to put empty adf in df1:, abc.exe in df0:, boot and type "runme.exe df1:" to unpack the data to df1:.

Your executable was a special case. It seemed to be some kind of self-extracting disk image format.
